What's the strangest place you've seen someone wearing The Hoops ?

It's no longer any surprise to me when I see The Hoops in some far flung holiday destination. There are, of course , a couple of clubs which wear jerseys' resembling the The Hoops. But there's only one that's instantly recognisable ! I've already told the story of being in New York and feeling like it was the Gallowgate on match day. But I've also been in places where I wouldn't expect to see it. Cuba for example; I was out doin' the tourist thing with my wife in Havana, we were exploring all the watering holes which claimed to be Hemingway's favourite. We got ourselves lost and completely off the tourist track, down a dingy wee lane where I'm sure even the Samaritans would've been ex-directory. Anyway, right there leaning against a wall was a big black guy, six feet six tall and three feet broad; a kind of cuban Bobo, wearing our famous jersey. Just made my day.

Next day we thought we'd jump a bus and go off the beaten track again, just to get a flavour of what Cuban culture is really like. The Bus driver wasn't wearing The Hoops, but we WAS wearing a Celtic Polo shirt.

While in Prague a while back we did what we always do, yip, we got on a bus with no idea where we would end up. When we got off I can only describe the place as being like Queen Elizabeth Square in the Gorbals before it was pulled down. Aye, you've guessed it, some kids playing football in the street and one of them was wearing The Hoops. Probably my bias showing, but he was the best player.....by a mile. Thought this would be better than talking about dead folk.

I didn't see it myself, but I remember seeing a video of a protest in San Diego -- I think it was an anti-Trump protest -- where one of the people filmed protesting was wearing a Scott Brown jersey. I am trying to find it with no success yet.

I only wear my jerseys (one at a time, of course) on game days and to watch games with the San Francisco CSC, and would never risk damage the cops or counterprotesters can do to the hallowed cloth. But this guy was wearing his Broony jersey, chanting some antiracist/antifascist slogan.

Good for him!

There's something very appropriate about that Icafiero.

Not to derail the thread, but as an aside, I have seen several jerseys at protests here in the States, both personally and in videos. In Santa Cruz, I once saw a guy with an Arsenal jersey (we talked about KT a bit) and in various videos there have been a few Liverpool and Barca jerseys visible, and one that made absolutely no sense: Dynamo Dresden (!) in Minneapolis at a George Floyd protest.

Meanwhile, I am trying to find this guy to be his agent, because with a volley like that, someone needs to sign him . . .

The first time I went to America my sister in law took me to the baseball to see San Francisco Giants play at Pac-Bell stadium. In the bar I was asking for drinks. When he heard my accent the young barman asked if I was Irish, when I told him I was Scottish, he asked what team I supported. When I told him Celtic he lifted his sweatshirt and was wearing a t-shirt with Celtic League Champions 2001-2, he gave me the drinks on the house too. I'd been there less than 40 hours and met an American Tim.

A good few years ago we were in Orlando on holiday and in one of the shopping malls, browsing round a sports store we chanced upon them Soccer Section, Barca, Real, Juve countless others and loads of PL strips on display, and one Scottish one ours obviously, Mrs says I dont see a rankers one, I explained that no one liked them except themselves and their strip was boufin anyway.

Few days later we are at Universal studios and Shades jnr has the hoops on, folk were giving it cmon the hoops etc and there was plenty hoops tops about the theme park all day, Mrs says again, I haven't seen a huns top all day I think your right about them, dont worry I said some prick will appear with one on, 2 mins later coming towards us this guy pushing a pram and decked out with the top shorts and socks of the huns, told you says I, then I recognised him it was my mate who stays 2 bloody streets away. F'n unreal it was.

Went to Israel in 1990 saw a bhoy wearing the hoops giving it the full wailing at the wall in Jerusalem he had the full beard the works . ..I had to talk to him...Turns out he was from Glesga on a voluntary kibbutz working holiday. Still ...i was amazed to see the hoops in the holy land .😎

My ex wife was a wedding photographer, we’ve done weddings at Celtic park, ibrox and fir park, all different experience’s

ibrox
Weren’t allowed on the pitch, but went up the marble staircase, was in the managers office and sat in Walter Smiths chair, was in the trophy room, they have a racing bicycle strangely in there, was in the blue room,
Funny story, the wee page boy about 7 years old, son of the bride and groom, see’s the baby grand piano and says”I’m taking music lessons, can I have a go” the woman that’s escorting the wedding party around says “ that piano hasn’t been played since the Barcelona bears came back here after winning the cup in 1972, but since it’s your mums wedding day, I’ll let you pay it”
So the wee fellow excitedly sits down lifts the lid, adjusts his chair, rolls his sleeves up, flexes his hands, cracks his knuckles, coughs, clears his throat, the anticipation is building, I’m expecting a bit of Richard clayderrman or some classical piece, then he start playing THE SASH WITH ONLY USING ONE FINGER, the wedding party bursts out cheering, I looks the my wife and the two of us busts out laughing......

Celtic park
Done the usual trophy room, dressing room stuff, the guy that’s showing us around says your only allowed on the tiny wee bit of grass of the pitch were the linesman runs, but then says, “there’s a bag of balls in the dug out, I’m away to check the wedding cars are ok in the car park, be back in 10 mins” so that was our chance to run up and down the pitch, I’ve score a screamer from outside the box at the Celtic end, great fun.

fir park
Done the usual trophy room stuff( nothing in it of any note) billy Davies the manager at the time came down and made a big fuss of the bride and groom, give them a ball and a shirt signed by all the team, posed for photos, then the head groundsman gave us a bag of balls and said “away you go and have some fun on the pitch”

Seen the hoops all over the world but my favourite was in Hawaii, walking along the front in honalulu, had forgotten Celtic were playing , heard a noise coming from one of the beach bars , people cheering , you could have picked me up off the floor when I had a look and it was the honalulu Celtic supporters club , big fuck off Hawaiian blokes with the hoops on , mental , needless to say ended up blootered
