Where does Johnny Hayes fit in?

People have already talked on this forum regarding the numbers of players in our squad and the wage bill that goes with it.
Never been convinced about Hayes quality as a Celtic player. I dont argue he gives all that he can but i cant see how he can figure in the present pool of players. Thoughts?

Playing and excelling at a provincial club like Aberdeen is totally different from performing week in week out at Celtic or in his case NOT performing week in week out

He has been unlucky with injuries but I also feel there are too many ahead of him in the same positionThe £1.2 million we paid Aberdeen for him was OTT

Hes never a Celtic player. Fair play to him he tries like a bear, but he just isn't good enough. A total waste of money.

Hayes and a few others have not really brought anything to the team. I want them to do well because I like to see people making a success of their career at our club but just cannot see it happening. Cifti tried like a bear too (at every club) and honestly if he'd made it, I would have been delighted but he was another one of the bargain bucket stars whom you just knew was never going to get there. I like Johnny Hayes but just cannot see it working out... To be fair too he doesn't really suit that unorthodox wing back or full back role thing that he was asked to play. It just looks too much for him. Christie etc...there are quite a few.....

Too true., I would never get on the case of a guy giving 100%. He seems like a genuine guy and a total trier. But.....

aye goldfinch, I think he's an old fashioned winger,i was trying to think who else could step up,sinclair to me is done, can't see Christie filling that role, mikey johnstone maybe... HH

I really like Jonny, he seems like a nice guy. However he's another one of Brendan's very questionable signings. If you're gonna sign someone from Scottish football it has to be someone with potential, like McGinn, Morgan or McKenna; not a 30-year-old.

He's been unlucky with injuries, yes, but he was never gonna be a starter for this team. Should have punted him and Compper at the very least, but again, at the moment we're not a functional team able to get rid of high wages and find serviceable squad players on the cheap, so. We'll have to wait until we become a team that does normal transfer window stuff.

Agree Johnny Hayes seems like a really nice guy. Ryan Christie also looks like he is trying very hard too. That said, I had a soft spot for GMS but the pressure at Celtic became to much for him however still here stories about him taking time to speak to Celtic fans and so forth. Johnny Hayes just seemed to come at the wrong time and I was never sure what the thinking was behind the move. It is amazing how many players are great at smaller clubs but the pressure of big clubs just seems to unnerve them. Forgot about Compper - not loving him at all :cautious:

Yeah going purely on the squad size, and the fact that Brendan hardly ever, ever, ever rests Kieran, well I just thought Jonny Hayes could have covered that left wingback role instead of spending more money on bringing Izaguirre back.

We let him go for a reason, the same as we’ll hopefully let Lustig go when his contract is up in June.

If we’re not going to even have him on the bench for a league cup game then it’s another bizarre decision.

He was on more than 20k per week before he went to Saudi so I’m sure he’s on at least 10k now.

The squad management has been poor.

As for Hayes, well who knows because Rodgers doesn’t change the team that often, and every time he does he says he shouldn’t have because we’ve not been good enough, - I think the 5 year old in the street knows there’s something far wrong.

Taking the facts that he seems a really decent bloke, tries 100%, is a Celtic fan etc etc . In my opinion he is nothing more than a squad player. Can you blame him for joining us ? No, but for me he has at best put his career on hold while he is here. Whatever type of form he had at Aberdeen was due to playing week in week out, that simply will never happen for him here and trying to find your best when only playing periodically is nigh on impossible. I fully expect him to either go back to Aberdeen or end up in the English Championship sooner rather than later.

reached his top level at eh sheep shaggers not quite got wot celtic need in a forward, loan move wd probli suit both him an e club

We need creativity on the wing & Hayes doesn’t have that,so I don’t think he fits in.Would rather Mickey Johnson plays than Hayes which has been the case recently,he seems to have a trick or 2,I reckon if he bulks up bit & becomes stronger we could have a top performer who’s came through the ranks. The bonus of which is they know what the clubs all about & know that winnings the only way.
