Don't want to dampen people's spirits and while I think the gallows humour and the fact we can still have a laugh about all of this is brilliant I do think we need to start understanding how serious this is now. Read an interview with one of the Italian doctors (Dr Daniele Machinni) at the epicentre of the outbreak in Lombardy and it was a sobering read.
The guy said people need to stop describing this thing as 'just a bad flu' as it was far more serious than that as he and his colleagues were now at the point of having to decide who to focus treatment on based on who's got the best chance of survival, he was also clearly angry at the selfishness of some people complaining about how they 'couldn't attend the gym or football matches' given the seriousness of the situation.
When you listen to what this guy and his colleagues are saying, look at the extreme measures now having to be taken in the whole of Italy then look at the current measures in place from both the UK and Scottish Governments then it seems like gross negligence on the part of both governments to continue allowing things like Cheltenham, music festivals and attendance at football matches to go ahead.
The Italians are at least 2 weeks ahead of us with regards to the impact of this virus. That gives us a small window of opportunity to at least limit, even if only marginally, the impact it has here. That could mean the difference in saving hundreds (possibly thousands) of lives longer term and if all we have to sacrifice is missing out on going to the fitbaw, the horse racing or some festival then it's a sacrifice worth making and one which we'll ending up having to make further down the road anyway.
On a wee side-note go have a look at Boris Johnson's interview on This Morning today, the man talks about 'taking this on the chin' allowing the virus to 'run it's course' allowing it to 'spread through the population.' WTF!!! Remember this is the guy who ultimately makes the decisions on how this virus will impact the population and here he is saying maybe we should just 'take it on the chin' so he doesn't have to do anything that will impact too much on his economic plans! Trust that fucker? I'd sooner trust the Coronavirus itself!
