Thoughts are with Pele right now as he has been admitted to palliative care, after stopping his chemotherapy treatment for bowel Cancer
What a player he was, as he led that fabulous Brazil team to the very top in the 50's, 60's, and 70's
LOVE pouring in from all corners of the world, for him, and his family

Pele is a legend. I was too young to have seen him apart from a few minutes of his retirement years with the NY Cosmos and his Oscar winning performance in Escape to Victory. And yet I still thought of him as one of the very greatest players ever.

Of course the naysayers moan that he never showed what he could do in European football. Well no, he never, but that is because he was so good that the Brazilian Government made it illegal for him to be sold to a non-Brazilian club.

He always came across as a decent guy and played the game the right way. He is the only player to win 3 world cups and he probably could have won a fourth if he wasn't so disgracefully hacked out of the 1966 tournament.

I wish him well and peace in his final days. And thank him for the delight he gave football fans everywhere for many years. 💚
 
When a lot of the football greats came to the US for that final paycheck in the NASL in the late '70s and early '80s, I got to see some great footballers who passed through (and played for) Ft. Lauderdale when playing the Strikers: Beckenbauer, Chinaglia, George Best, Gerhard Muller, Gordon Banks. But none was as phenomenal as Pele at Cosmos in the closing of his career. He was a class guy and a great player, even though he used to always find ways to beat Fort Lauderdale.

Grateful to have seen him play, grateful for what he brought to the game, and wishing him peace and comfort in these days.
 
I remember years ago there was an event in Belfast. I think the europa Hotel. Where best and Pele were guests.
George best made a speech and then introduced Pele. It made headlines here at the time. Best said "ladies and gentlemen, from one black bastard to another black bastard, I give you pele"
Best and Pele were very close.

I take it he was pissed. I remember seeing him on Wogan that time, Wogan asked him what he was up to these days, the bold George big grin on his face just slurred Shaggin Terry, ah jist luv shaggin!😂

Hope his final days are spent with his family and Friends and in the knowledge the World will mourn the Greatest of all Time.

George best and Pele were very close and used to rip the piss out of each other.
Pele once said that best was the greatest footballer he ever saw.
 
Best was some player, remember, he left a supermodel's bed, after partying all night at clubs around Manchester, hungover to the tits, and played in the afternoon, gamechanger on more than a few occasions
My favourite quote about Georgie, is when asked if he thought Carlton Palmer was a better player than Vinnie Jones

George best told a story about how he was in a casino and won a load a dough and met miss world. After a serious night of shagging he rang room service for breakfast. The lad that delivered it arrived to a scene of best lying on a bed covered in cash with miss World in the buff. The lad turned to best and said "Mr best where did it all go wrong"?
Best later said he lay there thinking it couldn't have been going more right.
