The state of Celtic over the past season

Since the start of season 2018/19 the entire landscape of the Club has altered massively

The biggest and most game changing situation was our failure to qualify for the Champions League Group Stages by ONE Away Goal
Very reminiscent of season 2002/3 v Basel under Martin O'Neil and in my opinion a far superior side to the current team

Literally hot on the heels of that disaster we lost Moussa Dembele at a time when we had NO CHANCE of securing a replacement

Over the previous seasons Dembele, who we had picked the pocket of Fulham to acquire. had been our Tallisman although his fitness had laterally been highly questionable, nonetheless when he had been fit he scored many important goals for us and offered us a prolific return on our investment
We had already lost Stuart Armstrong for £7 Million to Southampton who had become rather adept at relieving us of our quality players over the past few seasons Fraser Forster Victor Wanyama and VVD All for relatively good money plus sell ons but who had in turn made an absoloute killing

We signed Odsonne Edouard as a £9 Mllion striking option as it had been proven during his loan from PSG the season before that he and Dembele complemented each other and when played together were a potent goal scoring partnership As it transpired Edouard turned out to be a replacement for Dembele rather than complimentary

We turned down a £9 million offer from Fulham for CB Dedryck Boyata and the Belgian ultimately left us at the end of last season on a Free Transfer to Bertha Berlin in the Bundesliga after not playing for us again after being injured against SEVCO at Celtic Park back in March

Our failure to secure John McGinn from Hibs due to short sighted penny pinching, high handed antics, and a massive personality clash berween Peter Lawell and Hibs supremo Rod Petrie when the player was desperate to join us was unforgiveable and subsequently pissed our manager off so badly that he basically lost interest in our Club

Securing the League Cup for the 3rd time in 3 seasons, Brendan Rodgers' 7th successive trophy, and fortuitously making it to the Knock Out stages of the Europa League was evidently only papering over the cracks in the rift between the Manager and CEO, as was to be demonstrated a couple of months later when 90% of our Management and Coaching staff disappeared like Theives in the Night leaving our TR3BLE TR3BLE ambitions n a precarious situation

Leigh Griffiths personal situation had left us severely lacking in striking options and Ollie Burke, Timo Weah were brought in on loan to bolster our attack as well as Jeremy Tojlan from Borussia Dortmund to push Mikael Lustig for the RB berth

Out of the 3 only Timo Weah appeared to cut the mustard while Ukrainiane winger Maryam Shved was also acquired, much to the chagrin of our then manager, and immediately loaned back to the selling Club for the remainder of the season

Our so called Life Long Celtic supporting manager suddenly realised that we were not as high up on his life long list of priorities and Leicester City had now become his 'Dream Job' How fickle Life Long Celtic fans can prove to be
Rather than staying for a maximum of a another 14 games attempting to win an unprecedented TR3BLE TR3BLE and leave the Club and World's Best Supporters, as a True Celtic Great. he became a Parriah, a detested and ridiculed figure in the eyes of the Celtic Faithful

The only one man to fully come out of this mismanagement scenario was John Kennedy a TRUE Celtic man

Fortunately for Celtic and in particular Peter Lawell another Celtic Great Neil Lennon stepped into the breach and steadied a badly rocking vessel

After a season of unprecedented injuries to our players Lenny successfully guided us to the Holy Grail of TR3BLE TR3BLE and within 5 minutes of winning the Scottish Cup was offered the Manager's job on a permanent basis
Not everyone's preferred option and certainly the cheaper option but nobody can question his loyalty to the Club despite him leaving us 5 years previously after guiding us to the 1st 3 Titles enroute to the mythical 10 IAR

We had also brought in Lewis Morgan from St Mirren and loaned him out to Sunderland
Acquired from Kilmarnock on a free agent agreement was Youssuf Mulumbu only for him to loaned back to the same team after half a season and 3 truly uninspiring appearances and was ultimately released by Celtic at the end of last season

We also signed Bayo who played a total of 5 minutes for the 1st team

Another loanee Daniel Arzani the Australian Internationalist bought by Manchester City who ruptured his Anterior Crutiate Ligament during his 1st outing for us was also sidelined until the end of the season
We have also been denied the services of his fellow Socceroo Tom Rogic who was denied permission by Australia to play in the Glasgow Derby on 29th December and returned to us injured and haven't performed for us since

Our latest setback came today when it was announced that Keiran Tierney has eventually moved to Arsenal for £25 million in one of the most protracted transfer negotiations I can remember in recent yesrs

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish KT all the best and every success for his future

At an alleged £75k a week the 22 year old would have had to have been a very special person indeed to have turned down such riches

Hopefully a large proportion of his transfer fee will be reinvested to strengthen our squad as we begin our assault on the current season

So far this season we have lost the services of :

KT Mikael Lustig Christian Gamboa Emilio Izzaguirre Youssef Mulumbu Dedryck Boyata Scott Allan Doris De Vries and Marvin Compper saving the Club well over £100k per week in wages as well as Oliver Burke Timo Weah and Jeremy Tojlan returning to their parent Clubs with the addition of Christopher Julien Abt Elhamed Boli Bolangoli Luca Connel and hopefully more to come

HH?
