This where I'd like the opinion of someone that has watched him properly at Bolton to chip in.
I have very limited knowledge of him but there was a thread a while back on him so I watched all the hilights of Bolton he played in. Not the best way to do it but there was nothing else online to look at.
I'm going to stick my neck out and say Luca can't play LB. Not at the level of senior football.
He played deeper in midfield for them as a creative passing outlet from what I seen so they were calling him a defensive mid.
I praised his wand of a left foot, but defensively he was nowhere.
I accepted comments that he was 18 and there must be something about him for the praise he has been given before joining us.
Facts were that out of the 18 or so goals against he was directly at fault or played a part in 10 of them.
Reasons were
-weak on the ball
-poor positioning
-weak tackling
-poor technique when shaping up for a tackle
- severe lack of pace to the point were players at medium/low speed dribbling the ball were getting away from him
- allowed players to travel with the ball in any direction they wanted and didn't close space.
That might sound like a horrific review, mabey it is. Keep in mind these were hilights of a Bolton team in peril.
Mind everyone's response to boli's youtube reel? There wasnt one tackle in it. Guys on here were saying he looks more like a robust winger, hope he can defend.
It's early days for both of them. I have no shame in admitting I have early concerns about having to rely on them as LB options.
Hayes isn't the answer but right now, because he can get stuck in and make a challange looks to be a better option.
I'd invite anyone who says "but he is listed as being able to cover LB" to do as I did. Go on transfermrkt find the games he played in, write them down, watch them on YouTube then give me a shout.
