There are a lot of current & ex-serviceman living in Moray, many of them non-Scottish but most them with allegiances to Queen & Country (the Union). RAF Lossiemouth is still busy but the Tories closed down Kinloss then reopened it as an army barracks. These people would do anything to remain loyal to the UK so SNP have an uphill fight on their hands.
As an aside, during the Scottish indie referendum, taxpayers money was used to hire coaches to bus these serviceman to and from the poll stations to almost guarantee hundreds of extra "no" votes. Then shortly afterwards they closed Kinloss and this lot were relocated out of Scotland.
At a local council level the incompetent Tories are a farce in this area and are mocked and despised by many in Elgin.
And as for the slimey Ross - you never hear a good word from anyone about him, except 'he is better than the evil SNP'!!!

Never has it been more important to break away from England after seeing what working class folk have voted for down there yesterday.
Truly turkeys voting for Christmas but when they have no NHS to turn to they will be howling, when there are more people sleeping on the streets, they will be howling, when more businesses move to Europe and there are no jobs left, they'll be howling, and when their schools and public services are skinned to the bone, they'll be howling. Austerity? You ain't seen nothing yet as the tax cuts for the rich will be one of the first things dealt with after Brexshit.

100% true Shammy. When BoJo started his leadership campaign to take over the Tories, his number one priority (even ahead of Brexit, although this changed later) was tax cuts for the super rich. He actually looked at everything that is wrong in the UK and thought the biggest problem was the super rich were paying too much tax and this had to be addressed!
Now the Guffys have voted overwhelmingly for the Tories and he has a massive majority, he now has free reign to implement whatever policies he wants that were completely ignored during this election campaign! So thanks to them he will be pass their plans to fast-track the extension of the working life so that we will have to work until we are 75 in order to qualify for the lowest state pension in the civilised world. The NHS is going to be well and truly fucked as it is flogged off in stages to foreign conglomerates and corporations whose only interests are maximising $ for their shareholders, rather than the welfare of the sick.
The upside to this is that many more of the poor working classes will die off before they reach state pension age so the government will save money as they won't have to pay these

Having lived in England for a good number of years now what can I say. Disgusted but not surprised. The small time nationalism/racism among the population has been on the rise for years but sadly it is that growth among what I would once have called working class that has been the deciding factor. Solutions would be much appreciated. I can't return to Scotland yet.

Scottish Labour need to wake up or go extinct. Support the Scottish people or fuck off. Murphy, Cunningham, Superbroon, et Al betrayed us and their party has been evicerated thanks to their treachery.

SDLP (moderate Nationalist, Social Democrats) took another DUP seat off the daughter of Noel Little who was named in the BBC Spotlight Troubles doc as one of the main operatives in the arming of Loyalist murder gangs.
SDLP also took back John Hume's old seat from Sinn Féin in Derry by a huge majority.
This means there will be Irish Nationalist representation in Westminster for the first time in years. All down through the conflict we had John Hume and Seamus Mallon fighting our corner as best as possible in Westminster but the SDLP went into decline when those two great men retired. We can only hope their modern day successors are even half as skilled and effective.
Sinn Féin have some thinking to do. Abstentionism has cost them a seat in Derry and almost cost them in Fermanagh South Tyrone and South Down. There's little likelyhood that Sinn Féin will abandon this last sacred cow any time soon if ever. For them to mouth the empty words of allegiance to an Anglo-German pensioner before the English god would be a compromise too far for much of their base.
Given that a vote for Sinn Féin in a Westminster election is essentially useless as the MP doesn't vote on anything or network with other MPs, Sinn Féin are harming the cause of Irish unity by standing in Westminster elections. They should stand aside for candidates prepared to take their seats instead of surrendering the strategic territory of Westminster. The MPs who are happy to collect Westminster salaries and expenses would obviously think differently.
