On a more serious note. Try living in Ireland. In the south they've closed all the schools, but in the north they haven't. For anyone who has never been to Ireland, there is no difference to north and south, yet it's business as usual in the north and the brakes are on in the south. Anyone living near the border can cross it several times a day with no restrictions, so it's a bit fuckin useless having restrictions on one side and not the other.
At least the gaa, which is an all Ireland organisation is being proactive....

No need to worry Michael. Italy has 60,000,000 citizens. 12000 corona cases. So for every 5000 Italians, one person has the virus. Just saying like 😬 - its maybe not the end of the world....

60,000,000 citizens, 12000 CONFIRMED cases, they have no idea how many more could be infected hence the lockdown.

UK has 596 CONFIRMED cases, however the UK's Chief Scientific Adviser estimates the actual number of people infected is between 5000 to 10000 so if you apply the same modelling data to Italy (which would be on the conservative side as they've obviously been hit far worse and far longer than we have) then those numbers rise pretty sharply.

We have a duty to not exaggerate or scaremonger where this is concerned but we also have a duty not to be (with the greatest respect mate) flippant about it either. I agree we shouldn't get ourselves into a blind panic over this but to say there's 'no need to worry' gives the impression that we can carry on as normal and that's just not the case.

Currently sitting watching Question Time and the former Director of Public Health for England Professor John Ashton is livid about how the UK Government has/is handling this and the rhetoric they've been using. As far as he's concerned they've failed to act quickly enough, failed to administer proper testing and quarantines and failed to act appropriately by implementing more stringent measures the way other countries have. The man is clearly worried about how this is playing out here and that should be a cause for concern.

We ourselves need to act responsibly right now and that means while we shouldn't be getting all apocalyptic about it we shouldn't be casually dismissing it as nothing to worry about either. Not having a go here mate and there's no malice whatsoever intended in my comment I just think we need to be careful in what we say about this right now.

My concern is in NO way for myself, I'm young enough and healthy enough to see any possible infection off but I worry for my parents and older relatives who may listen to those people who say 'no need to worry' and it leads to them failing to take the proper precautions to protect themselves from this.

This pandemic is the worst since the Spanish flu just after the First World War which resulted in more deaths than all the military deaths on all sides of the First World War. 22,000,000
Covid19 is in the Scottish community and can easily spread around a crowded stadium or bar as if it were a petri dish. The public health solution is fairly simple. No large numbers of fans at games nor in bars. That means watching the game on TV or laptop from home. There has not been a pandemic like this in living memory and same old, same old does not suffice. Letting 50,000 fans mingle on Sunday will result in predictable illness and even death especially in the elderly. I cannot believe the Scottish Government does not take the initiative to prohibit unfettered access to Ibrox.

Wonderful thing, stats. But you should try and take into account as many facts as possible before drawing conclusions.
60 million population
12,000 with virus
So 1 in 5000 as stated

But you neglect to consider that 1000 of the 12,000 are dead. And that's 1 in 12
or 8% of those infected.
Listen to the stuff being reported.
The infection rate is set to rise significantly.
A lot of people due to die as already stated by Boris and accompanying Chief Medical Officer and that other guy.
And they know what they're talking about.

Thanks for that advice on how to think πŸ‘. I am now terrified of corona 😰
Chop your heed aff Andy apparently that's an effective way of not getting infected!
As I said last night I'm just not seeing where this worst case scenario of 80% getting infected is coming from.
China has had the virus for 3 or 4 months, they're now saying its contained, the new cases are minimal, the country is ready to get back to normal. 50 people per million have caught it in China.
Italy has been really hard hit but still only 250 per million.
I think we can all do our bit to prevent its spread, and vulnerable people should certainly take as many precautions as possible but mass hysteria isn't going to help.
Fuck it, I just coughed! πŸ’€

Thanks for tip hoopy - I'll bear it in mindπŸ˜„.

I believe the actual problem is demand for limited intensive care beds. So if you get hit by a bus - or bitten by a rottweiler - you don't want to get rushed to hospital only to find all the places taken by corona patients. That's fair enough. Not the same as a deadly virus that will wipe everyone out however... 😬
