Return of Deila

I thought the title would spark a bit of interest and look forward to being shot down.

In my opinion no one surpasses BR as a man manager and coach, however, his signings haven't exactly set the heather on fire. I also include his signings at Liverpool in this assessment.

Most of the current squad are either deila signings or players brought into the first team by Ronny.

Is it maybe time that we ask him to return as director of football to replace Lee Congerton. I feel like Lee is a man that is stealing a wage and didnt arrive with a great pedigree in the first place.

Ronny could identify targets, identify youth players and leave Rodgers to concentrate solely on the first team knowing there is a man with an eye for talent having his back.

Thoughts

Not a bad idea - he's a guy we can trust as we know his methodology.

Remember, his overthinking ultimately didn't translate from theory to practical use on-field; i.e he didn't know what he was doing when it came to implementing his strategy and tactics...

But...

For a few months his coaching seemed to click and the team played like world-beaters before reverting to Deila-type and laboriously overplaying around midfield and back.

But I'd trust his eye for a player and ability to get a good football-playing foundation installed in the minds of our youths.

I doubt he'd be any threat to the incumbent manager as I doubt he'd want the hassle again of a job that he enjoyed but proved to much for him, but a committed and reliable guy to have on the backroom team.

N. Ciftci
S. Allan
L. Bailly
S. Janko
C. Kazim-Richards
T. Blackett
C. Cole
S. Scepovic
A. Tonev
M. Wakaso
G. Mackay-Stevens
J. Berget

Not for me, he had an eye for dross as well. Only players he brought to the club worth a damn was S. Armstrong

I'm honestly not sure how many, if any , of them were RD signings.

Big Pierre sold Cifit to Pedro.

Only guy I know for certain was RD's was Ajer, in as a top Norwegian youth.

I'm inclined to think most of the signings during his time were Lawwell playing General Manager and cutting deals for players he thought he could hand to the coach to integrate. Doubt RD had any real say at all.

Hence, D. Desmond has had enough after losing the semi on pens to the Monkeys and calls time on the Lawwell 'Football Manager' experiment, bringing in BR to govern all things fotoball and sticking Pl back in his finance box.

If that’s the case then a defo no for Ronny from me.

A good manager should be confident enough in his own ability to be able to work with others / take advice from others without feeling threatened .
Given some of the 'poor' signings we have witnessed recently we certainly need a shake-up in the recruiting dept. We need to put real quality into our team this January as this will have a profound impact on our summer campaign in the CL.

Deila also identified and promoted calmac and kt. Bought boyata, christie and simunovic and brought roberts initially. I never claimed he was perfect or had control of the budget or signings merely he could be responsible for initial id and overall scouting. Lee congerton has done nothing and tbh the scouting dept has been severely lacking since the departure of john Park

Ronny had his time and was not good enough, plain and simple. Don’t want him back in any role as we need to aim higher than bringing back a failure.

Ronny was interviewed for a coaching role and gave the managers job as the cheapest option at the time. 2 titles doesnt make you a failure.

The guy was an empty suit controlled by the board in terms of money spent not coaching ability. Now that BR has control of the budget then this is a moot point. Ask yourself would he be any worse than Congerton. Not a lack of ambition i truly believe he had an eye for talent. Read the blog regarding odegaard. He would have been trusted to bring the boy on before he made the ill fated decision to sign for madrid. In terms of youth development i believe he has got a real eye for talent

Well he failed by not getting what was expected from the team, that’s why he was shown the door. Why would I want a guy who accepted an empty suit job, at the club now. Need to aim higher. Wasn’t right for the club then and wouldn’t be right for the club now in any role.

I disagree about the failed part. He won 2 titles. He had the balls to take a bigger job than expected of him or of what he expected of himself. Put this into perspective, I am not advocating he gets to make the team selection merely that he is allowed to identify potential signings. Something that Congerton has failed dismally at so far

nae bother D havin the debate, he could spot a player's strengths and weakness's e.g ajer,k.t,cal mac, no-one has a 100% with signings, would i have him instead of congerton, yes! would brendan approve... hhhmm! Hail Hail D
Michael its all about the debate. The good thing is on here you can actually voice a reasoned opinion without the usual nonsense. As i have said is deila the right man. I dont kniw but i do think he is better than congerton. If i am wrong and Celtic are stronger then i would happily be wrong every day

Very harsh analysis of Ronnie. He done what he could and was made a scapegoat of. There's a large hint of football snobbery from your comments, usually only seen from followers of the fake English Premier league!

Ronnie was cheated out of a treble in his first season.

The second season was underwhelming and the loss in the semi final sealed the inevitable fate.

But he was not a failure.

The SMSM perpetrated that shite to belittle the man and Celtic winning the league titles but not doing the treble or back to back trebles as the Huns weren't in the top league that's what was used as a stick to beat him and Celtic with.

There has been 7 trophies picked up consecutively while they are back in the top division and the SMSM haven't ridiculed the Huns or tore them a new one. Remember the SMSM know where their bread is buttered and it isn't to cater for us.

He was a good servant and his time at the club will be fondly remembered.

I think he's better being back in Norway with his family.
