A wee quick true story, in 67 my sister was born on the 26 th of May stopping my da from going to Lisbon, he still loved her, Anyhoo I stayed in the valley in Castlemilk at the time and a few days later a few of us were kicking a ball about in the spare ground between the Milk and Simshill where big Billy lived, one of the older guys shouted us across the ground and we all trooped over to Billy's House and out he came with the cup with the big ears and proudly waved it about for awe us kids, when I got back home and told my dad I'd seen the European Cup at Billy's he was stunned apparently it was one of only 2 games he hadn't attended that season and here was me seeing the cup before him, this wasn't the first time I'd seen it, I was there when the coal lorry toured Celtic Park and my da wasn't cause he was working.
Wonderful scenes in Bellshill this afternoon as the Lanarkshire town's community recognises one of their own, Celtic's legendary player, captain, manager and ambassador Billy McNeill.
Super stuff Belshill bhoy. You all deserve to be very proud of yourselves. It is an outstanding gesture to a wonderful Celtic legend, human being and footballer. This was epitomised by the presence of John Greig and Willie Henderson. Respect. I look forward to visiting it.
