Cinderella Story.
--------------------
Countless ships of heads and faces,
Steaming up the Broomielaw
Into Greenock and Port Glasgow
The starving Irish came ashore
No pledge to shelter our huddled masses
No lady lies waiting in the bay
Hunger is a great force for keeping down our wages
We're hungry enough to take any pay
Factory workers, potato pickers
Down that pit, or on your way
Low sanitation, and worse ventilation
Twenty one to a room, and fifteen hour day
We brought our skills, and we brought our vision
We brought ambition, and tradition as well
Cant change the past, but you helped shape the future
The Irish rise from our poverty hell
There's tension rising in the dockyards
To drive us back across the sea
And riots in the town of Greenock
Only fuelled the flames of their bigotry
But the Irish changed their situation
Like a phoenix rising from the flames
From desperation, came celebration
And Glasgow Celtic was the name
Another Cinderella Story
A fairytale that must be heard
Another song of rags to riches
A brave new start in a brand new world
Countless ships of heads and faces,
Steaming up the Broomielaw
Into Greenock and Port Glasgow
The starving Irish came ashore
Thanks for that comrade. Are you Green Brigade?
