Strange that a man who masterminded the biggest corporate fraud in history only served 12 years with a minuscule fine in comparison to his heist.
Im pretty sure that if you arm rob a post office (example) for 4 or 5 figure sums you get more than 12 years.
This dude seriously dented world economy with his weird accounting and destroyed the investment of billions, while scamming his own employees and telling lies of the most heinous kind.
His fellow buddy Ken Lay was personal friend of Bush family
He even got a personal birthday message from Bush senior as a true friend to the Bush family (along line of family and friends are all that matter). They owned Enron with links to Taliban and gas pipelines through Afghanistan. They manipulated markets and created false Blackouts in California which led to Big arnie becoming governor.
The list of corporate crime they manipulated is staggering.
Coincidentally all the records of who they dealt with on world stage to cover up their crime was all stored in twin tower trade centre.
Arthur Anderson (at time the biggest accounting company on planet) was caught shredding copious documents that could fill numerous juggernauts, and got shut down.
the amount of money that disappeared off the stage coupled with the destroyed livelihoods of its entire work force and investors shocked world.
But they finally got jailed
12 years on they are out and building a new private company
Anybody else think this is similar to the shambles we are witnessing with a certain loss making machine?
interestingly Skilling left Enron a year before it collapsed. And it wasn't him that did it.
Sold his shares and left with big pay day.
a company that had lots of sub companies to hide the debts of main company and was 7th biggest company on planet a few years before it went down sinkhole. Connections to the richest guys in world, and every bank and accountant who worked with them could not be traced because the records were blown up by Saddam.
2001 was an interesting year in many many ways
But the Enron boys are back out with their empire about to begin again. trillions of wealth gone, couple million fine and 12 years in luxury prison.
Couldn't make it up.
