Hoy - less of the "some fucker"!!!
The game is totally fecked up and has been for a long time. IMO it started in earnest with the Italians buying up the stars in the late 80s (though the Spanish giants had done this before). The English clubs ramped it up and then Real/Barca took it to another level when Bosman kicked in. Once PSG came from nowhere and the English clubs started throwing about their Sky/Petrodollars then the sport was going downhill very quickly. The rich clubs want to maintain as much of a closed shop as possible - just because they happened to be the rich clubs as the tv deals went global.
The big clubs are allowed to stockpile dozens of young players who are the cream of world youth players. In the past the there was a better distribution of talent as top sides had 2 or 3 superstars who were supported by a dozen or so very capable local players. Clubs would get by with squads of less than 20 first team regulars, whereas today they will routinely play 16 players in every match and rotate a larger squad.
These days clubs have squads comprising of 20-30 internationals. If any player breaks through at a poorer club then they are cherry-picked by the top clubs but it is not unusual for them not to get a chance and so there development is stifled.
Ironically the complaints we have about the richer European & now Saudi clubs are the same moans that fans of other Scottish clubs have about Celtic.
There are too many clubs like us who are now too big for proper competition domestically yet are financial minnows compared to the clubs in the tv-rich leagues or subsidised by wealthy owners/countries/emirates.
