VAR

VAR will be the worst thing to happen to scottish football since the birth of Sevco. Absolutely no good will come from it. There will be 3 huns sitting in a room seeing exactly what they want to see and relaying it to a hun with a whistle. There will be no interviews explaining their decisions afterward. There will be no replays repeated over and over on big screens. There will be no unbiased analysis of every VAR decision at half time by the likes of fat boyd. Who, remember, after watching the replays of morelos falling over and winning a pen against Dundee...actually said the Dundee player should have saw red 😬
Beaton got a pat on the back after the morelos "kick a fenian" match....from our fucking board and the SPFL.
Madhun had a shocker at the weekend. Not a word in the media...not a word by the pundits...instead he's tweeting happy easter tweets with images of him walking onto the park. Obviously completely happy in the knowledge he's untouchable. Look at England if you don't believe me. There have been to many mistakes, by unbiased refs, to count. Full time professionals get it wrong down here..with little critism...maybe a few words from Gary Lineker on a Saturday night...but its soon forgotten.
Now give that same technology to huns with and agenda and see just what they can do with it!!
When the refs fuck it up on a consistent basis in Scotland...you're not going to get Thomspon on Sportscene flagging it up!!

What makes football the sport that it is, is the human error and fallibility of its participants.

Even the very best players can have a nightmare and even the very best teams can get done over by weaker opposition.

VAR doesn't change that, but it's been shown to make the referees who use it pretty cowardly in their decision making. The reason why it's going to be an issue in Scotland is because it is only designed to correct a clear and obvious error and that depends on the referee making a decision in the first instance.

Madhun's performance on Sunday would have circumnavigated VAR because he refused to call decisions in the first instance. Therefore - they could not be deemed erroneous decisions as no decision was taken during actual play. If no call is made in real time - then VAR would have to intervene and that is not the intention.

All we are going to see is incompetent and biased referees ignoring every on-field incident that affects Celtic and making a call on every single decision that could potentially benefit Celtic.

This is why it's still flawed. Unlike in rugby we still cannot hear the conversation between the var referee and the onfield referee. If the onfield referee doesn't want to admit he's made a mistake he can still call it his way. We need true transparency not just in Scotland but in every game it's used.
