Many are started by lightning strikes in the forest, many are started by thoughtless idiots disposing of their cigarettes and not extinguishing their camp fires properly

Well, it's not only cigarettes and lightning: Rather than fix what's wrong with its infrastructure, Pacific Gas & Electric is just going to shut down the power to avoid burning down the entire state. We are scheduled for a rolling blackout sometime today. A PG&E malfunction has already caused the current fire, so there you go. Many of us are already working on municipalizing the power company here, the bastards.
