Ange and Spurs

Just read James Forrest's article and he makes the valid point that Ange could have been talking to Spurs weeks ago.
If you look at mini losing streak we encountered in the last few weeks, where the players were playing uncharacteristically badly and seemed to have lost direction you would have to wonder what was up with them. Perhaps we now know.

Don't normally read him but think this time he's right on the money

I am pretty gutted. I was giving Ange the benefit of the doubt but I understand that the draw of the EPL was too much for him to refuse. It reminds me of Wim immediately leaving after stopping Deadco's 10 in a row bid.

I fully understand why so many fans feel bitter and letdown by Ange. I am wondering if he thinks that this is as good as it will get for him here and so he is taking a chance for the riches of the EPL as he may never get the opportunity of such a high profile appointment again if he turns this down. I wonder if the successful transformation of Carter-Vickers convinced Spurs that Ange's hands-on coaching style is what they need to get that extra from their squad to convert them into real winners?

Personally I think he has a difficult task at Spurs and he might clash badly with Levy's dictatorial style, but that is of no concern to me now. My biggest concern is if Ange returns to Parkhead with a chequebook to poach CalMac and CCV. We might well lose some others - especially those Asian players attracted to Celtic because of him personally - but that is always the case in modern-day football where players flit in and out of our lives.

Thanks for some incredible memories. But if you leave us then frankly I don't care what happens to your career in the future. I wonder if the Yokohama fans felt like this when he left them after bringing them success and then returning to cherry pick their players?

Has he been spotted in London yet?
Don't know if he has been, but I have another little scenario which might be in play here, Ange will have talks with spurs, but won't be making an immediate decision, if City win the champions league Pep might decide that he has nothing left to do at the Etihad and low and behold Ange who has previous with the City will all of a sudden decide against Spurs, either way I don't think London is his Destination, if city lose and pep stays I think we'll still have Ange next season. But the idea of him leaving has now been let out of the bag so if he does stay with us we are going to be used to the fact that his stay won't be that long. HH

Agreed BB. My main concern is Calmac.

The thought crossed my mind after the Hearts game. The performances suddenly went to shit. Wondered if something was going on that the players knew about but we didn’t.

I doubt that any of the players knew about Ange's intentions to leave for several weeks now. We all know that there is always at least one player in any dressing room that likes to blab to friends or a contact in the media and this would have leaked out a while ago. It was only last week that things seemed to take off and much of that appeared to be coming from London at first.

My take is that our players were tiring after two seasons of very intensive football playing style and then once the league was wrapped up they did what most footballers do and dropped their intensity enough to be beaten in dead rubber games.

I guess we will find out in the years to come, but we know too that Lawwell will do his usual pre-emptive off-the-record leaks to hand-picked lickspittles in the media who will "exclusively reveal" that everything was Ange's fault. Has Pistol Pete's return resulted in interferences again behind the scenes, or was Ange always likely to get itchy feet after a short period of time, and this was just a coincidence? We may - or may never - know what really happened for a few years yet.

You raise a couple of interesting points there BB regarding Pistolero Pedro.

Maybe Kennedy leaving Celtic to earn his "Spurs" might be exactly what he needs to do. Who knows - that might complete his education so eh is finally ready to return to Parkhead as the manager in his own right in 2 or 3 years time?

Let's be honest, Lawwell will not rest until he has finally appointed Kennedy as the Celtic manager.
