CELTIC scouting Shankland Dundee Utd?

He reminds me of this guy

A hat-trick on Saturday will see Kenny Deuchar notch up 50 league goals for Gretna in just 45 games just what the good doctor ordered. Neil White reports

Gretna play Alloa on Saturday and if the 25-year-old hits a hat-trick he will break his half-century in his 45th league start for the club. That is not entirely unlikely given Gretna’s dominance in their division — they are the only unbeaten side in Britain — and his track record in such matters — he equalled Jimmy Greaves’s 44-year-old British record last season by scoring six hat-tricks — plus the fact he is the Second Division’s top scorer with nine. The best so far? A question has never been answered faster.

And so we should be. Celtic should have scouts continually monitoring a large number of potential targets to help us decide if they may be someone we would be prepared to make a bid on following a proper review all all available information. That doesn't mean to say that you do try to buy them - I'd imagine the % you decide to make a bid for would be relatively low - but it would be negligent to not to check out players who are playing well. Some players can step up very successfully from the lower leagues and many struggle either for mental, physical and/or ability/skillset reasons.

But there is always an inherent risk in every single player you bring in and there are no guarantees of success irrespective of the amount of money you spend (although hopefully your success should increase on higher value players).

We might decide a particular player isn't for us one time then a few months/years later our circumstances may have changed or they may have developed differently that means they are indeed now worth a punt. But you have to have a skilled scout keep watching players otherwise you are just guessing or reacting to third party opinions and that is when you are more likely to make mistakes.
