HIS TIME IN THE HOOPS WILL NOT BE TELEVISED
Giles 'Gil' Heron, father of jazz musician and agit-prop poet Gill Scott-Heron, whose best known song is the 1970s number The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, played five games at Centre forward for Celtic in the 1951-52 Season before thinking better of the climate.
Jamaican born Heron, nicknamed the Black Arrow, was the first black player to play for the club. Making his home in Chicago, he came to the clubs attention in Detroit during their North American tour of 1951. A man of many talents, he was a boxer and cricketer of some repute and also had two books of poetry published.

Gil Heron came up in another thread somewhere (thanks, boab1916), and I always thought that was pretty cool.
