Green brigade banner today an embarrassment

I do think that in the way it was written with the different colour "UC" in Fuck is meant to symbolise that it is their opinion and tbh, they are quite right imo to be able to express it!

Who fancies some trivia??

Which famous ageing Rock Star once said ,

"I think Enoch is the man … This country is overcrowded. The immigrants should be sent home."

anyone?

The tory proclamation was not the problem

It was the offensive gesture to a celebrity fan, who just so happens to be rich.

Singing about hating tories is one thing.

Telling a fan they are not a fan if they dont agree with hating tories is quite another.

I have no idea if Stewart or the other Tory fans of club are philanthropic win their own way.

Who they vote for is their business.

Has nought to do with Celtic.

Holding up a banner to tell a fan to feck off is not Celtic minded

Telling them their politics is not your cup of tea is one thing.

Telling them to feck off is another. And if the reason is he votes Tory then its bang out of order.

Who they feck thinks its ok to dictate who he votes?

Politics is fraught with machiavellian connivance and if Green brigade are more political than Celtic minded then they really aren't fans either in their own definition.

Freedom requires choice

Dictatorship of what constitutes the correct choice is not Celtic.

I dont like Tory system.

I am probably more victim of their system than most of green brigade.

I will never vote Tory ever.

But I won't tell anyone to feck off if the do vote that system in their freedom

And its not correct to suggest Celtic football club are anti tory

We were never anti anyone.

Pro freedom of choice. pro education, pro virtue.

Anti nothing except evil

And voting tory does not make you evil

It doesn't make sense to me.

But who the feck am I to dictate anyone else freedom unless they are promoting slavery

And soviet style socialism is slavery to state much more than any tory policy

Tory may seem wicked if you are victim of the system

And I think I am victim of the system

But I will defend any tory voter choice to vote for their choice and ill welcome them at celtic even if they look down their nose at me, which they never ever have to my senses.
That is a great post Tet.

Do they have secret oaths and hidden codes to hate tories at Celtic now?

Coz id like to know so I can feck off with the tory voters

Is it a requirement to be a Celtic fan?

When was this rule introduced?

Coz I missed it in the last secret meeting

I don't think so...just an observation that given UC means Ultras Celtic and it was written in green, perhaps symbolises it...I don't care if it is or isn't tbh

Rod is a racist Tory cunt , that much is fact

I think one of Rods biggest problems is he seems a wee bit confused on political matters. A few month back when asked about the stalemate of brexit, Rod started banging on about the Churchill spirit, an expression that I've always had a major problem with, if you play the numbers game, this monster outdone Hitler in the evil stakes.
Nowadays, Rod seems to be dabbling in Irish Republicanism, he's even done the Kilmainham Jail tour to show his republican credentials, I've never been a fan of the man's music, I cringed when he put Grace on his album, I think Rod should stick to football banter and ripping the pish out of the Zombies.
I have to say though that if we claim to be a club open to all then we can't pick and choose who sits among us, that's coming from someone who finds it hard to stomach the tories.

Generally speaking I don't see football as the place for politics; just my opinion.
That said I don't find telling someone to **ck off that big a deal; even writ large on a banner.
I especially don't find it offensive, in fact I agree wholeheartedly with, telling someone who sides with 'sooking up all the gravy' (credit Rab C), too **ck off.
The tories are at the worst, in my memory, to the point were guys like John Major were telling people to avoid them.
It's an extreme time, in my view, and that can bring out extreme views.
Rod can say or tweet what he likes, none of my business. Only caveat I put on that is that the tories are a hateful mob; backing them can make you a target of a response from the, sadly, minority of UK voting public.

So what we have to try and breakdown here is a case of feelings vs. law.

There was no implied threat of violence in the banner and the word "fuck" gets special case study in Scotland due to its frequently occurring appearance in everyday conversation.

I personally use the word in all manner of conversations; however - I do accept that there are specific conversations where the word is inappropriate (as opposed to being unacceptable or illegal).

Many of us will tell each other to "fuck off" on a regular basis, it's a standard figure of speech in Scotland and Rod was only receiving the same treatment that many of us have to digest pretty much every day.

Is it behaviour unbecoming of Celtic fans?

Personally, I don't believe it is, but that's just me. To be fair to Rod, as far as I'm aware, he hasn't got his thong in a twist about it so far, but some of us appear to be taking offence on his behalf. If the man himself feels mortally offended, then that's fair enough and that's a different conversation, but until that point - then it is what it is and should be downplayed rather than highlighted.

I've seen us give each other 20 times that level of hassle on this platform alone, so let's not hype a relatively minor indiscretion into some attempt to character assassinate a pop star who displayed a bit of naivety in tweeting congratulations to a walking scarecrow.

I'm sure Rod Stewart has suffered worse from the paparazzi and alimony courts, so I don't think he's going to go all raging bull on his trainsets over this matter.

Could turn out to be the longest running thread on the noise
Longer than any of Rods comeback tours
HH
Aw jeez, Dil.........do you realise that they're doing these holographic concerts now?

There's a Whitney Houston holographic tour coming up, so can you imagine how long Rod's going to on the Lazarus tour in the years to come?

In saying that, if Steviebhoy's magic box can do Marilyn Monroe holographics, then count me in!

If ye are a Tory, ye are my enemy. I think Tories should be harassed and confronted whenever and wherever they show themselves. They are about to lower our living and working conditions, austerity killed tens of thousands of sick, elderly and disabled. The Tory attitude is, if you are not working and making money for Tory businessmen then you are not worthy of life. Your sole purpose in life is to make money for them. Fuck the Tories and those who voted for them or congratulated them. Fuck Rod too.

Rich, I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to make an effort in trying to further qualify this comment.

For as much as many of us are aware of the wee free stance on the "Irish Problem", there is a similar dictat that goes way back to Churchill's time in the North East which the Tories refer to as "The Dundee Dilemma".

Dundee has been regularly used as a 'testing ground' for what would be largely unpopular policies and the tory party have been proactively trying to destroy the city for over 100-years.

Dundee, due to it's long, long history, has always had the hint of militancy surrounding it. Until quite recently, we also had the second-highest population of the Irish diaspora in the UK. If it wasn't enough to stamp upon our socialist tendency, then it was even more of an incentive when they considered the Dundonian Irish population.

Dundee is on it's knees right now, and it is in that position by design, not by accident!

Obviously as a member of the second generation of the Irish diaspora in Glasgow I too would like to qualify this further; if you gents will permit my contribution to the discourse...
...tories are C**TS 😎

I agree totally SP.

The more I read about this, the more I think that this is a load of shite blown out of all proportion. So someone told rod Stewart to fuck off, so what. I'm sure it's neither the first nor last time that has/will happen. He's a fuckin wanker anyway(my opinion). Republican when it suits or Tory when it suits. To me that's a two faced prick.
To everyone claiming that "the green brigade doesn't speak for me", I have yet to see anywhere the green brigade to claim they speak for everyone who follows Celtic. It's their opinion and they are entitled to it, the same as everyone else is. So if you feel like you love rod or even boris then why not make your own banner and display it at the next home game. So then I can start a thread saying you don't speak for me and we can keep this bullshit argument going well into January!

I think feelings remain very raw regarding the election result. I've seen a few people over the last few days step back from conversing on the issue for that very reason.
Not sure the Green Brigade are saying they speak for all fans, in fact they have regularly made it clear they don't.. They speak for themselves as an element amongst the support and they probably also saw an opportunity for a dig back at a pop star to used his own influential position as a Celtic fan to have a pop at them. As such they are entitled to respond imo. It's all a bit lame to be honest.
I have a tiresome Marxist father in law. Maybe we could get yours and mine together in a room and they can talk each other to boredom, while the rest of us have a drink and a laugh and try not to take life so seriously.
We could take alternate weekends if you like. That way we'd both get a breather now and then ;)
If we get a wee bit of peace now and again Niall I dont mind taking the first shift mate.
