Linesmen A Redundant Role?

We've seen some strange decisions lately go against us and lengthy VAR checks holding play up.

If we need the back end of 5 minutes for a referee to check if a goals onside or nor why do we need the linesmen?

Livingstone player heads the ball, playing Abada onside, linesman flag stays down, goal scored.
VAR tells the ref it's offside he over rules the linesman and disallows the goal.

Rep scores at the weekend linesman flags offside
VAR checks and he's a mile on.

If we are going to be waiting 5 minutes for VAR to decide what's a goal and what's not then why bother with the linesmen.

Why not bin it and install more cameras and just let play flow and check the goals after they are scored.

It would appear very few of them actually know the rules anyway.

Good idea, but probably impractical atm, you would need every league in every country to have VAR and goal line technology installed or else you would basically have leagues playing with different rules ( a bit like the zombies in Scotland).

But if the day came that it was compulsory for teams to have VAR then the wee guys with the flags would be better being sent back to run their bowling clubs.

Most grassroots football dont have them and when the ref turns up and asks for assistance and two people to run the line all he's ever looking for is his new assistant to tell him when the ball is out of play... dont flag for fouls or offsides etc.

We like to think we play in a professional league etc but we have a few teams wagging the dogs tail unfortunately and a ruling body that can jet around Europe watching games and going to conferences etc with fans money but cant afford goal line technology yet.

If you didn't have linesman then VAR would be required to decide every throw in as well as offside decisions.
games would last a week . Frustrating as they can be they ain't half as bad as VAR.
