Sky TV deal

The problems Doncaster ,

We all know scottish footballs shit with clubs run on an amateur level awaiting there yearly handouts to stay a float at the same time can hardly fill their stadiums and have the balls to turn away away fans who could ,,,,,,reduced cash flow reduced investment ,,,,,just enough to keep the lights on
most of the football on offer is muck ,,,,hardly worth showing
so as a product the only selling points are us and sevcos bigotedhatefest ,,,,throw in the useless refs who dont even know or apply the rules even at a 30m deal some think were sold short ,,,,for the shite on offer

Sky do fk all for our game their content is slanted the presenters are clueless inbreeds who have done very little in the game

BT sport were a good fit they did try and talk the game up and they did call out the idiot refs i could see why Doncaster would go courting sky ,,,,they don't tend to highlight the faults

Although inmuch prefer Tam Boyd slating the reds on celtic TV to bt sports šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

It wouldn't cost s thing mote. Celtic tv already shoe the games to supporters outwith Ireland and the UK
Donā€™t understand this...why only for folks outwith the UK/Ireland. The ground is sold out is not? So selling to others shouldn't affect ticket income.
Many folks who might like to subscribe to Celtic tv live a longs ways off and it would be infeasible for them to attend many games even if they could get a ticket.
Think weā€™re doing ourselves a disservice with this stance.

Dont think Celtic get a choice in it mate, Sky have the exclusive UK rights, not sure about the Republic though.

Doncaster should go as he's been at the helm for far too long. However, he is not the issue. He is the front man for the clubs. He's there to take the flack and the abuse and act as a human shield to the CEOs/Owners of the clubs.
If Doncaster went tomorrow it wouldn't make any difference whatsoever. He's been negotiating with Sky because that's what the clubs want. Guaranteed money for the next 7 years with very little risk. To move from Sky would be seen as a massive risk and Scottish football bosses don't like risk. The Setanta collapse over a decade ago was a financial disaster that Scottish football still hasn't recovered from.

It was celtic, the huns & Aberdeen who wanted to go with SKY & all the others wanted to go with Setanta for an extra Ā£1m a year.
So that financial disaster was down to the CEO's of all the other teams.
We should go it alone and they can all do their own shit

That can't happen as a think all the other teams we play have rights to when it comes to broadcasting ,they will either want their slice or will block any viewing of the game
For us itwouldn't be a problem selling ppv games but for the diddy badly run teams they know they don't have the support to sell it to so would just sit on there hands and greet they're skint

a bit like the ticket situation at the weekend killie a club that are near on there arse could turn down Ā£120k in ticket sales , that's just under Ā£480k from visits of us and sevco ,,,,bowling club mentalitys strong in Scottish football

I got Celtic TV from the very start, if you had the screen any bigger than match box size (all be it swan match box size) it would buffer & buffer, but living in Oz it was either than or nothing.
However I find the people who work at CTV very helpful & its not their fault the streaming is crap compared to Optus sport which I have just joined to watch the EPL.
Celtic TV is like watching armature tv compared to Optus sport professionals in picture & presenters
As someone mentioned earlier if the ground is sold out why can't every other Celtic fan watch their team on CTV.
Although I suspect the local sky or whoever has the TV rights would object, but that is up to Celtic board to sort out for their loyal fans but we all know our board will do nothing :(

That's it, they say the sky deal is for 48 games, it's really for all the games in the leagues. Sky pick there 48 games, no one else can show the 1's sky don't want as they have exclusive rights. Its farcical, they also get to chose the kick off times and what day games will be played

The current TV deal , which runs out 2025 might be getting extended.
The current deal is Ā£25m a season for 48 games. So Ā£520,833 per game.
The new deal they are taking about is for Ā£29.5m a season for 60 games. So Ā£491,666 per game. Plus each club can sell 5 home games through PPV , which haven't been picked up by SKY.
So the new deal is worth less than the shitty old one.
What they don't tell you, is SKY aren't buy 48 or 60 games, they get EVERY game. As no one else can show they games they don't want to show.
Is it time to tell SKY to fuck off?. Same will all the broadcasters.
Sell the Highlights and let clubs sell their own games
There is no ' negotiating a new deal' there Doncaster sitting waiting to sign whatever sky offers.
Rights havent even been put out for tender and that's unforgivable for any CEO.
Be better off negotiating with NENT ( nordic entertainment group).
It's a deal for sure but for sky not Scottish football

How can Doncaster and cronies look club chairmen and CEOs in the eyes and put this forward as the best deal on offer when no other deals have been considered let alone negotiations?
Doncaster has been in role far too long and was a poor choice to begin with

The board of the SPFL will hold emergency talks after a new Ā£30million a year broadcasting agreement between Sky Sports and the SPFL was thrown into doubt.

Granted 28 days to vote on a resolution recommending an extension to the current contract 12 clubs from the Scottish Premiership were also asked to provide a letter of waiver agreeing to let Sky increase the number of home games they show from each ground each season from four to five.

While eleven top flight clubs agreed to the request by the deadline of midnight on Sunday the league received no response from Rangers and the resolution collapsed.
A resolution over broadcasting rights for the SPFL collapsed after Rangers failed to respond

Under the terms of the proposed agreement the broadcaster would be entitled to increase the maximum number of games they show from 48 to 60 a season from season 2024/25. In return Sky are prepared to increase annual payments to Premiership clubs from the current figure of Ā£25million to Ā£30m by season 2028/29.

The broadcasters have also secured first refusal on two additional bundles of 10 games at a cost of Ā£4million each from 2024/25. Exercise that option and coverage of Scotlandā€™s top flight could increase to 80 games a season, with clubs raking in a total of Ā£38million per annum.

An issue which would normally require an 8-4 majority of Premiership clubs, all 12 clubs were required to grant their consent to the change of rule on how many games Sky could show from every stadium. Despite broad support for the deal at a meeting on clubs on August 5, the resolution failed to garner the necessary support and failed.

Privately Rangers are believed to harbour concerns over the leagueā€™s reluctance to put the broadcasting contract out to tender to invite higher offers.

Sky would like to increase the number of Scottish Premiership matches it shows in future years

The board of the SPFL will now hold emergency talks to consider their next move. An attempt to change of rules to force the controversial Sky deal through at the second attempt is one option on the table. While that would only require an 11-1 majority from Premiership clubs all 42 senior clubs in the SPFL pyramid would be required to vote on the matter.

Currently in dispute with the league hierachy over a controversial sponsorship deal with online car firm cinch, the Ibrox side want a meeting with other Premiership clubs to highlight their concerns over the issue.

And in a late attempt to persuade the Rangers board to provide a letter of waiver and salvage the Sky deal Sportsmail understands that SPFL Chairman Murdoch MacLennan offered to convene a summit later this month.

Citing persistent concerns over corporate governance within the league the Europa League finalists called for the resignation of MacLennan, Chief Executive Neil Doncaster, and legal advisor Rod MacKenzie in April 2020 and that stance has not changed.

Last year Rangers Managing Director Stewart Robertson suggested that rights to the national game had been ā€˜undersold.ā€™ And any new vote by clubs over the Sky deal is likely now to become a de facto vote of confidence in the league office bearers.

Well done the sevco board - for once they have done the right thing. The SPFL are selling themselves short again.

I Detest SKY involvement within Scottish football mainly due to there favouritism that they show and cover towards Hun scum.
Yet I find it staggering to see them being so opposed to the deal when SKY have promoted them on a far bigger scale than everyone else????
Of course it's all about money, and with the voting system that's in place and SKY prepared to offer PPV matches for the smaller clubs, I still can't see how ourselves along with the scum can possibly win any vote on this issue imo.
These smaller clubs still hold the real power in Scottish football with a voting system as it stands, a ridiculous system that allows all the powers to be of the Scottish game to organise such deals where they possibly benifit more individually for the people involved in such deals.
These smaller clubs are only interested in a guaranteed income with the added sweetener of the PPV, and fail to see what we can actually do in regards of the situation.
Hun scum need the money on a far bigger scale than ourselves still, and money within the club is not going to be an issue for ourselves in the foreseeable future either.
So a no win situation exists for myself anyway on the issue, support the sky deal who I detest or support hun scum who I'll hate and detest to my dying days.
Would have to stick with sky personally given a choice imo.

Agree. The fact they are trying to push this deal through now when the present one runs until 2025 and not going out to the market to see what's available is negligent in the extreme. Streaming services are the way forward. Interestingly Viaplay, who have all Scotland and Ireland Euro 24 qualifiers and Nations League games, have bought a controlling stake in Premier Sports and appear to want to expand their football coverage across the continent. A company who have Scotland internationals and our 2 domestic cup competitions must surely be worth negotiating with to see if they want to take on SPFL games. All Scottish football on one platform would be ideal, and save supporters having to buy subscriptions for 3 different providers as they do now.
DAZN have just taken over Serie A TV rights from Sky Italy, another streaming service looking to expand.
