Alex Ferguson

Jock Stein didn’t just revolutionise Celtic he revolutionised world football.....he paved the way for others to follow in European Football.

It is widely stated the Dutch gave the world total football when in essence it was Big Jock and Celtic.....Alex Ferguson was a great manager but they broke the mould with Jock Stein...

Big Jock and Celtic squad attended the famous England v Hungary game in 1953. The Hungarians played total football and destroyed England 6-3. I think it was the first time England lost to a non UK team at Wembley. Feranc Puskas was the star man for Hungary. Puskas was Ange Postecoglus manager at South Melbourne. Funny how things work oot in football.
Alex Ferguson was Big Jocks pupil. He played for Jock at Dunfermline and loved it and wanted to learn everything he could from the big man.

Alex Ferguson was Deidcos only hope of winning the Big Cup. He was a Rangers man through and through and should have won trophies with them and not Aberdeen. Their bigotry cost them their only realistic hope of winning the Big Cup.

Big Jock was the man epitomized by the fact he acheived all that he did with home grown talent
Fergie was a great manager and while it can be argued he followed Big Jock's ethos in bringing the class of 92 through from the academy he still spent hundreds of millions of pounds on his teams.

Could he have acheived what he achieved with 11 lads from Manchester

I doubt it

BIG JOCK WAS THE BEST MANAGER THAT I'VE HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF SEEING IN SCOTLAND IMO HE'S THE BEST EVER MANAGER SCOTLAND HAS PRODUCED.

When Jock took over the Scotland job in 78, he chose Fergie as his assistant manager. In his books, many interviews & at a sportsman's dinner I was at, Fergie admitted that he had the best apprenticeship ever assisting Jock at Scotland & it made him a Successful Manager. He took notes every time they spoke, they both suffered from insomnia & spent many nights talking tactics, style & types of players. Fergie often referred to the notes he had taken when on Scotland duty, later in managerial career. He also admitted. That BIG Jock was the greatest manager Scotland ever produced & those 7yrs at Scotland made him the 2nd best manager just a head of Busby & Shankly.

He did leave Rangers after one of the Directors referred to Fergies wife as that Fenian Bitch.

Will always claim if Mark Hughes hadn't scored the 3 goals that he did in 2 finals against Palace and Barcelona then the legacy that Alex Ferguson set for himself possibly wouldn't have come about.
So still ranks way behind the other Scottish great managers imo, as he did get the time and the money to create such a legacy.
No way would he have been given that time nowadays, and was fortunate to be around at the right time and with the luck of having such a talented set of youngsters also.
His man management skills were set by other greats before him and no more so than Big jock himself.
Such legacies like the great Scottish managers of the past will never be achieved on the same scale again imo, yet what Ange is currently achieving may well put him alongside such an outstanding achievement in what he could bring to the Scottish game, and on a far higher achievement than most done within the English league as such.
So the biggest ambassador for Scottish football will always remain with Big Jock and possibly Ange may well become the only one to ever challenge his achievements still imo.
