A brilliant piece from Niall although a tough read, please do read it though.

I worked in homelessness for over a decade. I wonder if our paths met.

Hi Marty started off in Edinburgh moved to London end of 2006 for about 10 years, 3 years in Kingston and now West Midlands for just over 18 months. If you ever did West London we may have?

My brother did, down in London. Still does in fact. I was all up here West Dunbartonshire Glasgow, South and North Lanarkshire. I was Community Learning and Development for years before that and back doing it now.

It's been proved across the world that capital punishment isn't a deterrent. I also dont see it as a suitable punishment, as soon as the switch is tripped the suffering, in this life at least, is over. Make them do hard labour for the rest of their miserable life, plenty of time to think about their actions and the suffering they caused.
It's a much cheaper option for us taxpayers. Could be wrong but i remember reading it costs about £80k per prisoner.

I was shocked at the level of homelessness when I lived in London 87-91. I had never seen anything like it before. I never ever got used to stepping over people in shop doorways and tube stations.
He we are 30 years later and I'm stepping over people in Dundee.
Well done to Niall and Marty and all those other people who work with those who, for whatever reason, find themselves homeless.
I hope it never gets to the levels I saw in San Francisco and San Diego.

sad thing is Richy, even in London we were winning the battle, then boom-Austerity. Benefits slashed, supported people funding disappeared, charities folded and back to square one. Big society aye?

I saw a paper that was published in the British Medical Journal in 2014 that showed "austerity" had killed 122,000 people, mostly elderly and disabled. These Tories have a lot to answer for.

In the late 70’s most people wanted the death penalty for the Birmingham 6 and the Guildford 4 there was “proof” that they were all guilty see how that worked out

A point already raised jinxy and its a good one for sure.

Manufactured proof isn’t what i’m talking about.

Companies have checks in place to ensure quality n accuracy. It usually involves independent checking.

In a world where exceptionally clever people invent penicillin and the like, i don’t think its too far off a stretch to think we could put some checks in place and ensure proof positive, guilt.

Then let the scum swing.

Everyone has their own thoughts, opinions on it and points raised are understandable.

This is just mine. If it was up to me i would ensure they do swing. Fk i’d hook them up.

Perhaps not palatable for some but it is truthful of my view.

But the problem is that the 6+4 lived in a world where clever people lived but that didn’t help them. The pressure to get convictions ANY convictions turns these people corrupt that’s why I wouldn’t want the death penalty in this country

Understand.

I think prejudice was highlighted in the eventual downfall of those convictions and therefore showed the system as flawed.

I believe fix the flaw by integrating specific checks and bobs yer uncle.

Swing time

Agreed. Most take your view and i understand why. I really do.

My own thoughts on it are finality for abominations so they will not get another chance to devastate a child.

Not enough police to monitor these sicko’s and the taxpayer should not have to feed this scum.
