Celtic v PSG match thread, all comment here

I know we all think Celtic is the be all and end all, but in reality, Scottish football, is on a par with Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark , Poland and any other football backwater you care to mention, apart from 4 Celtic v rangers games, and the ever decreasing chance of making it into the champions league, what do we have to offer.....not much, playing in front of some great fans......

I'll never give up hope. We showed the way once before. Not niave but shit does happen.
It does indeed and hard work and determination in any particular season can match the best in one of games with massive home crowd.

if football continues this weird money game though

less people will love the game and it will implode from bottom up

And to be honest I think thats happening already

Game overall quality is diving as elite end wages expand and I dont see that many weans playing game itself

We are the best team in Scotland but the game today showed us that PSG are clearly a better team. The first ten minutes was scary as we were cut apart but we came back into it in and fared a better. The second goal was a nasty deflection that wrong footed the keeper and was a sucker punch. I hoped we would fare better in the second half against a second eleven but hope is not enough. We can learn from this that we have to be better but I do not know if our management team can motivate our players to become even better.

We're big fish in a small pond Doc,Europe is a rigged, financially doped game,we have to punch above our weight, which can happen, but in europe we are minnows, second eleven?one of their subs cost more than our first team combined! but hey ho!

Just finished watching the game: It bloody hurts getting hammered!

I'm not going to tear into the team as lets face it, they are world class. However, Lennon didn't agree to play them if he wasn't going to learn from the game. These are my learnings from the game. (not iny particular order).

1. Pingpong - just can't defend great going forward (doing a Boligoli at the back isn't good enough constantly out of position).
2. Taylor - Links very well with elyounoussi up the left. Like Pingpong struggled at times but I quite like him and I think there is a real player there.
3. Edward other than the offside goal has done sweet f*ck all in preseason - very poor so far.
4. Away from home in Europe we need to stop giving cheap early goals away (friendly or not).
5. We played some good football in the 1st half.
6. The players heads went down after the 3rd goal, don't think I can recall that happening before.
7. Bain makes 1 mistake in preseason - fans sing pink floyd's The wall.
7. At 0-2 we still had a chance back at Paradise.

Agreed Michael so the only solution is to find a bigger pond. We've been bumping our gums about that for years but still no sign of it ever happening. I'd be happy if we did find a bigger pond AFTER we have won the TEN
The bigger picture is football is a game and if you can coach youth to be the best they can be and better than their peers, the problem that creates is they move for more money under contract. Suddenly Eddie, Ayer,McGregor are all attracting attention and our problem is how to keep them, thats your issue, right there, we cannot afford a guy like Fraser Forster and Forster is not even considered top drawer in European circles and not in demand,
Billionaires have ruined the game as we know it,and we have to enter their pish tournaments to survive, with what we have.
Time to cap everything in football we have watched and let it spiral out of control and we participated in it's demise, we bought into the commercialism and lived in it, we the fans can take the game back, but alas it is not going to happen as some fickle fans are engrossed in a belief system that they are watching the greatest ever, its like the globe trotters on steriods, the pandamic is easing slightly and actually at the top nothing changes, players will demand extorianiate money and will get it as the fat cats at the top will make more than the demands of players ten fold and so it continues.
Football is about physical strength and tactics and competition, what we are witnessing is finacially doped steriod football and its pish. Soon as Celtic go out of Eirope i switch off, i support Celtic and do not give a fuck about other teams and do not hold any in awe, Celtic first and Celtic only.

Their second 11 cost about 20 times our first. That's what we are up against. It's a stacked deck and one I feel we shall never get a good hand from. We suffer from being one of the greatest clubs in the world, forced to get by on foodstamps. Having said that and as I said last night, for a twenty minute period in the first half we played better and showed real skill apart from the final third. I can't remember a two minute period in Roger's tangles with them. So they can be happy with that. All I wanted was to show we could play a bit. And we did. Would have loved a goal against the cunts, but it just wasn't to be. It did show we need to bring in a couple of players at least, if we are actually serious about qualifying for the CL, which I never believe we are, we play at it. We hear, we are waiting for the English to start selling, when we all know fucking twats earn £60k a week, so that's utter bollocks. It then moves to waiting to see if we qualify before buying, which again is arse from elbow. We need the players in to help us achieve that. Until that Rubicon is passed, we will forever be a Europa League outfit. Here we are with one goalie, a decent keeper and great back up, but not one who can do what is required at a higher level. We are going for the 10, but fuck all seems to have changed in mindset. It's just another, let's hope we have enough. And that level of ambition, to me at least, is on a par with no fucking ambition. Save me all the pandemic shit please, this has been our opus memorandum since I was moaning about Semolina and Prunes as desert in my primary school dinny queue.

This morning I read we made our usual derisory offer for the AEK keeper, which was laughed out of court, and sighed. We try to save a few million, then lose tens of millions failing to qualify for the CL, because the players we need and would probably get some of, if we offered a few million more. Some people think that's a good business model. Here's a tip, never go into business with people who think that way. You will never progress. Unless of course, you can take a £3m bonus every year regardless of meeting your key objective after winning the league. Which in itself would almost guarentee domestic dominance. One thing this morning did on reflection make me happy. If big Eddy had been brilliant yesterday, keeping Lawell from cashing in on him, would be as futile as me wishing that fucking semolina and prunes would change into caramel cake and custard.

Agree with what you say what hey spend on one player could buy a team in some leagues ours included, but we do have cash and even given the situation at present there are decent players the club could buy without busting the bank as I said it depends how serious the club is about the future

Well, that's us fucked then. Ambition is defined in a way that doesnt correspond to my understanding of it's meaning. We plod.

What we need is players in the mould of McGrain, Dalglish,Aitken,Burns, players of that calibre that played with their heart and soul and never gave up. This season coming is the most important in our history, we need a team that will battle to the end. Preseason games although great to win is all about preparing for the season ahead. Like every Celtic supporter I hate getting beat no matter the competition. Let's all get behind the team no matter what comes our way in the season ahead. Yours in Celtic HH.

Ally i do not think we would be able to keep players of that mould anymore therein lies the problem, Europe treat the rest of the teams as academies for the elite, if they see a potential player they like they lure them with wonga.
Can be hard to expect loyalty from players now when they see the cash and see the reality of playing in major tournaments, but the vision sometimes becomes the obscurity and the player is lost and trapped in contracts offering massive wages that they will never leave regardless if it means not kicking a ball, PSG brought on Julian Draxlier who has not kicked a ball for them and has watched his German career go down the pan and will allow it to spiral further rather than let go of massive wages for sitting on his arse, this is not football, this is stockpiling and waste.

Too true TET it used to be kids playing on waste ground or down the park, councils moore likely to sell pitchs than do anything to help pavilions falling into disrepair. No encouragement given to put thier phones and I pads down until the FAs across Britain get thier backsides in gear and do something about it the young talent will dry up why do you think German teams are after Celtic youngsters,as you say the roots are suffering from the lack of interest

Totally agree boab. Its just that I want to see our team win every week. Being harsh I know but being brought up with great lions and the first nine in a row team, Im used to success. I know also that our best players will go eventually but is to much to ask that they give us at least 5years.HH
