Breakaway European 'Super League'!

Makes sense to who?
So the teams that finish 7th - 10th in the Premiership will qualify for the champions league.
It's a fucking joke. If they teams want to start their own league, let them.
But they then have to be kicked out of their FA & UEFA competitions .
The german clubs have already ruled this out and PSG arent one of the 12 clubs whove been invited. Players at those clubs should also note that they will not be able to play for their country either.

Things becoming a bit clearer on this now.....

The breakaway clubs (12 founding members who've declared and 3 other unnamed clubs who've not yet declared) still want to play in their domestic leagues but will become permanent members of a new 20 team European Super League structure (split into 2 leagues of 10) which they can never be relegated from.

The permanent 15 will allow 5 other clubs to qualify annually for their new set-up (those 5 clubs will likely be from the native leagues of the permanent members) based on domestic achievement (which I'd imagine means winning their league) to make up the 20.

Each team would play one another home and away, the teams that finish in the top 3 from each league would then qualify for the quarter-finals, while 4th and 5th in each league would play a 2 leg play-off against each other for the two remaining available places. After that it would become a 2 leg knockout affair and then a final.

This seems to be the crux of it.....the only teams who can ever be relegated are the 5 non-permanent members and from what I can make out it means that no matter how well any of those 5 non-permanent teams do (maybe short of winning the fucking thing which might grant them automatic qualification the following year I dunno) they will be out on their arse and will need to qualify again even if they finished 5 places above a permanent member in the league phase of the competition!

If ye needed any other proof that this is not a sport but a fucking greed driven racket where sporting achievement means fuck all then that☝️ is it!

While I worry Docco (sorry JK ) might be right and this burns European football to the ground it could also be an opportunity for the remaining 99% of European clubs to bring some much needed sanity, balance and fair competition back into the game but only if National FA's and UEFA don't sell out to these greedy fucks.

Let this mob have their 'Super League'! If they want to set themselves apart from the rest to boost their profits at the expense of every other club in the European game then fine but the price of that should be being permanently kicked out of their national leagues, domestic cup competitions and all UEFA competitions.

These clubs and their greed have already ruined the European game anyway, a handful of clubs have been allowed to spend ridiculous amounts of money on player transfers and wages while racking up billions in debt making it impossible for the rest to compete....so maybe it is time for a reset, one without these self-appointed 'top clubs'.

There's nothing to say Europe's FA's and UEFA can't do a European restructure of their own, one that benefits everybody instead of the select few it has up until now and one that not just competes with this racket but leaves it in the dust rueing it's own hubris!

Fuck 'em, cut them and any other club willing to play a part in this loose!

So a rigged game then ,,,aye fk em n the ship they sailed in on

Let them. Kick them out their domestic leagues and UEFA competitions and ban their players from international football. Let them have their reality TV programmes for Asia and the USA, football fans will soon become sick of a closed shop who’s only interest is money and not the game itself.
Spot on Garry, I'll never get sick of The Hoops, But I could very easily get sick of the greed in the game.

UEFA have brought this on themselves. They have basically done the same with the champions league, giving 4 teams for the top 5 leagues straight entry into the CL.
Fucking spurs an elite team? Not won a trophy in how many years?
60 years since they last won the league, 30 years since they last won the FA.

As a measure of how badly we have been let down in recent seasons...

"
An editorial in sports daily L’Equipe says the Super League members are “traitors”. “If they continue with their project, we will never forgive them," it reads. "We won’t forgive them if they give it up, either. The 12 clubs will remain traitors of a shared ideal for a long time still. They’ve showed they’re ready to kill off European football, its essence, its history and its beauty with their cynicism and greed.”

“The day European football faltered”, reads France’s So Foot, which sees the potential departure of 12 teams as a chance “to finally breathe”.

“If this NBA-like tournament is to become reality, it will increase suspense… teams like Ajax, Porto, Roma or Napoli will experience the thrill of reaching the final stages of the Champions League and will actually have a chance to win it. This would also mean that some legendary European teams could experience a second wind – can we dream of seeing Glasgow Rangers, Dynamo Kyiv or Panathinaikos lift a European Cup in the next few years? Can we picture Leicester or West Ham as the next Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest of the 2020s or 2030s? Yes, we can. And that’s exciting.”

Not only did we not get a mention, the scum across the city is now in our box seat. Peter and the board... are you proud of yourselves????

T
I am actually more gutted about this than yesterday's game tbh...not that I have any time for any of the team's involved..it's just that this is now the end for football as we know it....yes it has been coming due to the champions League shitshow but football in Europe will now become some sort structured franchise based closed shop like the NFL is with the same teams playing each other all the time...trades, drafting, free agency etc will be brought in.owners will get richer, fans will be fleeced even more....teams will become franchises with the possibility of them moving city at the drop of a hat...
Past achievements like our European cup win will now be diluted and almost forgotten about as the only show now will be the big show......a move like this consigns us to the lowest levels and never again will we be the footballing world powerhouse we are meant to be
The last three posts from yourself JK, CR, and Sandman, all have very valid comments, and yet the difference in opinions is stark. I fear clubs would lose their identity to some extent. The game would be, ( some say already is ) at the mercy of the money makers/grabbers. I'm not religious, but I quite like the saying "God first makes mad that which he destroys". Sadly I think that other saying, " the desire for money is the root of all evel" will probably win the day sooner or later. The game has changed without doubt; speaking for myself, I think I'm a bit too long in the tooth to change along with it if it becomes some kind of franchise/circus.

Frank Owen, I like what you say, ' the desire for money is the root of all the evil" maybe add “Neither a borrower nor a lender be; / For loan oft loses both itself and friend.” I've always thought that Celtic with their no debt stratigy was a good one. The movements in the last few days makes me feel that the debt is getting too much and they have to do something about it. JP Morganare not to trusted. I care about Celtic and I do care about football and it's fans. This is a civil war just beginning between fans and the money men.

It's not for the winder good. this is good watch:

Is anyone still trying to get their heads around Spurs thinking they are an elite European club.
Only ever won their league twice, last time 60 years ago.
Won their last FA Cup 30 years ago.
Last trophy they won was the league Cup 13 years ago.
Fucking Aberdeen have just as good a shout as spurs to claim that they are an elite club.
Fucking wankers

It's the rule in Germany that supporters groups are always the majority shareholders holding at least 51%. German teams would need the approval of the supporters before joining.

Sky reporting an "unnamed" board member of a breakaway club has said, " breakaway clubs expect criticism and not worried about PR" and "many board members opposed joining new league but owners committed" also "primary job of owners is to maximise revenues and profits"( their primary job is to win trophies me thinks) and this, "owners don't like giving playing assets (not people!) to countries for little financial reward" and this nugget, "owners just can't get their heads around concept of relegation"
The Americanisation of football in Europe and International football.

I wonder how Liverpool and Everton fans feel about the end of the Merseyside derby?

Its that Levi bastart ...they built a beautiful stadium they cany even fill..

Some of the other 14 EPL are saying the breakaway 6 should be booted oot EPL immediately and their players banned for Euros. The time of this is shocking too. Fans of the 6 unable to protest on match days like they normally would.
English football would go into a downward sprial. Who would really tune in to watch Brighton v West Ham or Everton v Burnley. Their TV deal would be slashed as the viewing figures drop off a cliff.
If that Happens they will be begging us to join them them

Pretty much mate. UEFA bent over and gave their leagues 4 CL spots in order to stop them doing exactly this as all these 'top clubs' wanted guaranteed CL revenue every year but it still wasn't enough.....this is something completely different though.

This is like a CL which 99.9% of European clubs will be forever locked out of, nobody else but them and the 5 qualifying clubs they allow can ever take part and those 5 clubs will likely be from the domestic leagues these clubs belong to.

The problem now is if UEFA and the National FA's allow them to get away with this without banning them and any club willing to take part in qualifying for it from playing in domestic leagues/domestic cup competitions then European fitbaw for clubs like Celtic, Ajax, Benfica etc. is as good as finished. Our leagues will be forever locked out of the European top tier and we'll be left with nothing but a glorified Europa League spot to play for every season.
