I think everyone (except Succulent Tam English & Davie Provan) thought VvD was utter class as soon as they clapped eyes on him and knew he was destined a big money move. Why none of the really big English teams took a punt on him I will never understand - their is still that in-built snobbery whenever they speak about all things Scottish football related that they missed out on a bargain. He always had so much more time on the ball than every other player on the pitch, and still does even at the highest level in Europe.

He seems like a genuinely nice guy and a hell of a player (described this week by Vincent Kompany as the greatest defender there has been since the start of the English Premiership/Premier League). He was privileged to play for Celtic and we were privileged to see him play so well for us in the Hoops.
