Julien Christopher

Very well said TV.

Commented last night that I didn't know much about the boy but that this type of signing was exactly what we needed. A player with a good few years first team experience under his belt who's played at a good level, someone who could provide that much needed balance to a young side.

With respect to the young projects this is the type of signing I've been desperate to see happen, snapping up talented youngsters is great and makes financial sense for us but there's been a degree of naivety in the team for a good few years because the balance between youth and experience wasn't right and a signing like this would go a long way to addressing that.

Absolutely buzzing at the prospect of bringing a guy like this in, especially as it also addresses the problems in central defence. If we get this one over the line then massive credit to Lawell and the board for easing up on their preferred recruitment criteria and for accepting that these type of signings will be a massive benefit not just to the team's performances but to the development of all those young project players we sign.

I've been really critical of Lawell and the board for their inflexibility on this front so praise where praise is due......a massive well done to PL and the board and I applaud them for their pragmatism. Long may it continue! (y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)
A Kelvin Wilson type player I hope. I was sad to see him go. He would have been great for us had he stayed longer. Put his family first. Fair dues

I know i’m tempting fate, but as I don’t do superstition, I will put this up.

When I started to look at the numerous clips of this young guy, I liked what I saw. In fact that is an understatement. Now I’m big and ugly enough to know that clips aren’t everything, but there were pieces of skill repeated enough to show me he possessed a great touch, can pass a ball and was strong in the air and on the ground.

After I decided that I would love him to be here, my inner self defence mechanism kicked in, warning me not to get carried away. To think of the asking price, the wages, the fact us going for him might focus English gold on him and if that happened, curtains would be the order of the day. Black ones.

The story wouldn’t go away, as many rumours do, so, I believed we were actually going for him and a bid would be submitted. That to me gave me great heart, at last an actual defender was being liked at to sign. Never happened under Rogers, with his efforts, in the most critically in need of assistance area of our team, where, to put the best possible slant in it, was fucking woeful.

A real defender who would be ours was a welcome change.

My inner, we can get this lad voice, began to shout the odds. But always lurking was the, don’t get ahead of yourself you big twat, and so ever since he appeared on the radar, he dominated it and I swung from certainty of each position.

He will be here and if we get a good quality RB to partner up, I actually think I will pass oot. Of course the continued noise about young Kieran has us all, even those who claim adamantly that he won’t go, an uneasy feeling that he might. I always thought he would never leave whilst we had unfinished business tonreach 10. If he does feel the same that will be as good as anyone coming in, so important is he to us. I’m confident is a worried as fuck way he will stay.

Imagine going into euro games with a defence you have confidence in? New territory and a welcome change.

Lenny talked about six players and I can’t wait to see the others, young Luca seems to be heading, but he isn’t first team ready yet. Or, who knows the lad might be that good he is, either way I am confident of him sharing the load and playing a part. The other three players to make the six I am eagerly looking forward to seeing arrive.

It had to happen this window, that’s no guarantee that it would with us though, but I knew the board had to tool up. There is too much at stake. The price of inaction would be horrendous and the support would have gone tonto.

I am never slow to put the boot in to the board when I feel they have dithered. You may have noticed. Let’s be clear that its not a situation I want to be in. I want just one thing, that we have a go. That we do all we can to help us improve. Even if we fall, the fact we did our best and gave it our all for me is the key.

So hats off to Lawell for this signing of Julien. For looking at and actively pursuing him and other quality and bringing them to our great club. Keep it up and we move up.

I know Julien will be a great addition. Everyone and their aunty who want to see us fail continually point to our weakness in defence. And they have a point obviously, especially in terms of Europe. Improving there gives us a better chance to secure CL qualification and bank the riches. Those riches kill Sevco. We are better than them by a distance right now. Having additional resources to continue to bring in quality keeps them buried inside old sofas, trying to find a handful of change.

I am, to borrow a term from the young team, fucking buzzing about how we are recognising the need for quality.

Julien encapsulates that and I thank Lenny for seeing him and Lawell for getting him. The direction is right, now. We have fucked about too long. And for that, I am the happiest greetin faced cunt I know. HH

If he turns oot to be Oliver Tebily mk. II, then I'm holding you personally responsible because of that positivity.

Well played, TV1, I'm away to pay it forward now and instead of letting my missus make me a cup of tea, I'll let her bring me a dram instead. Times like this call for a celebration and from this day forth, the 26th June will be remembered as V.E. Day (verdict was ecstatic day)

Family always comes first Richybhoy so you had to respect the guy's decision. I liked Wilson he was decent player for us, a good solid no nonsense CB.

From the video TV posted the boy Julien looks to have a wee bit more about him than Wilson though, as well as being a solid no nonsense CB he can also see a pass and weighs in with a few goals too. Looks the type of player who'd be perfect for getting on the end of set pieces, which is something we've been crying out for.

Forgive me for playing Devil's advocate a little on this. I'll qualify it initially by saying he genuinely looks a top player and I totally agree on the experience being required and a welcome diversion from the 'project' approach.
But I have a nagging voice asking me why at 26 he's not been picked up elsewhere? I keep hearing how France post Wenger is a saturated market from youth level to the top league for English clubs in particular. Late developer possibly but as small a concern as it is I've got a wee voice saying, if he's that good in that league how come we're getting a relatively free run at it?Especially given the media have been over it for a few weeks.
