With there being no proper football on, I thought I'd take this opportunity to have a wee rant!! (If you can call it that)

I love listening to Celtic Podcasts. It makes my commute in and out of London a little easier. Two of the best, IMO, are 20 minute Tim's and the Celtic Exchange. Tino, the creator of the Celtic Exchange, joined the Noise to promote his podcast and for that I'm grateful.

He is currently running a feature, that I've posted about a couple of times, mapping out the events that took place around Celtic 30 years ago. If there is a big archive on the history of Celtic in a vault somewhere then the podcast, that the Exchange has produced should 100% be saved there. What Tino and his team have managed to do, in telling the story around probably the most important time in Celtics history is nothing short of amazing.

The podcast, currently on part 5, (we will get to that) has managed to tell the story of the events, around that time, from several angles. We've had Save our Celts, Jim Orr, who could possibly be credited, along with others, of starting a movement that would eventually bring about the removal of the old board. We've had Matt McGlone of Celts for Change talking about the hard work they put in, convincing the fans that change was needed. Stories of secret tape recorders and protests at the bank. Then there was David Lowe discussing his relationship with Fergus and his mission to gain shares in the club. I've just listened to Tom Grant, an actual Celtic board member at the time of the Whites and Kelly. The stories and first hand accounts from these guys are truly eye opening and I urge anyone to have a listen....

Now my wee rant.

We have had perspectives of events from different sections during this time...and part 5 is from a media point of view. I could only bring myself to listen to about 15 minutes of this before switching off, sadly. This is because, for what ever reason, the guy they've decided to interview is no other than Hugh Keevins. Now, maybe in the early 90s, old Shug, who states in the podcast that he's from a Celtic family, was a friend of the club. But the last 20 odd years of listening to this guy attack our club, meant that I just couldn't bring myself to listen to him, which is a shame. Unfortunately, for me and possibly only me, its tainted what is probably one of the best and most insightful pieces I've read or listened to regarding Celtics recent history.

In saying that, I recommend that you listen to the various Podcasts, on the Exchange, mapping out this part of the clubs history, including Keevins, if you can stomach it.

If you made it this far. Thanks for reading 🤣🤣🤣

Great shout Lubo, i'll be all over that.
I'll never forget those days.
The day after the battle was over and the rebhels won, i was in my last year of school.
I bought every newspaper the next day on the way to school and at dinner time i had no money for food, but i was buzzing.
When i think back to the years that preceded the takeover (notice lurkers - wee Fergus bought the fucking Club and the support backed him and we paid our debts), it was fucking awful.
I sometimes see poeple ranting on here during and after games and i think, why am i not as mad as them. I now its because i lived through a decade of going every week to watch utter shite allied to knowing your clubs fucked financially.
Nothing can ever come as close to that, in fact in those days you'd have given your right nut for the success we have had nowadays.

I'm one of those people who moan at the fans who go on about how they "lived through the 90s" every time us "spoiled" fans get up in arms about current events....and I'll probably still do that....but I 100% have more respect for the guys who lived and breathed it during these times.

I just wish The Exchange could have found any other journalist who was active around those times!!!
Maybe if I listen to part 5, I'll find out that Keevins wasn't as much of a rat back then and actually played a huge part in helping the the rebels win....who knows.
I don't really have time to listen to too many podcasts. But these bhoys are good so I'll definitely give it a listen when I get a chance. You should give the Keevins one another listen as it is always good to get other perspectives on these types of situations. Having never actually listened to Radio Clyde I have avoided the pleasure of hearing this twat. Except on shared clips on social media in which he always comes across as an ignorant loudmouth dickhead.

To be fair, the only time he pops up on my radar is when JF, is destroying him for yet another appalling attack on our club and fans. That and the the countless times he's written off our players and managers, although that hilariously leaves the guy with egg on his face.
I'm sure at one point, he must have been a decent journalist, and like I said, I listened to the 1st 15 minutes and he does come from a Celtic family....if so, he's taken the soup more than most.

I dont have a problem with fans who get stuck into the team etc on here Lubo, its the right place to do it.

Then again if i'm in cunt of a mood through a sore defeat its normally those moaning i have a go at, take the higher ground like a fucking snooty cunt ....... but i or anyone else doesnt get a badge to wear and we're no more no less entitled to anybody else over a rant or opinion about our club. Its our passion.

As far as living through them days, they were fucking rough m8, but in hindsight, its given a dose of perspective/realism about where we really are now.

We're probably the most financially secure club in the UK now and i hate the cunts for putting us in that position....Sack the Board

A name that pops up in every one of the Podcasts is Brian Dempsey. Appears to be a massive driving force behind the takeover. According to every person that the Exchange spoke to, this guy could talk and when he did, people listened.
The old board brought him onto the board and then quickly got shot of him. Thankfully for us, he didn't take to kindly to that!!!
What I've learned from the podcasts is that, during that period, there are a lot of unsung hero's, and not all millionaire business men, who played a pivotal role in saving and creating the club we love.

I've convinced myself that I have to listen to Keevins now.
Every person they've spoken to so far has had a great story to tell and played an important role in the battle for Celtic. I can only assume that Keevins played his part.
Maybe, at one point, he loved the club and wanted to see it saved. Maybe the bitterness towards our club came at a later time. I'll listen to the Keevins of those days and ignore what he is now.

I’ve been watching them too Lubo. Was really surprised to see Shugs mug staring at me through my i Pad for part 5. Couldna bring myself to watch it.
It’s been a great Series so far though.
We came so close to being Cevco. A New Celtic would never have been allowed to claim past glories as their own like the sevvies do.
The Celtic Wiki has a lot of quotes from various people from around this time, some real shockers. The SFA and Media hated Fergus McCann

This time in our history brings back so many memories for me.
If i was on mastermind it would be my specialised subject. I was only in my early teens, but Celtic was my life then, it was a torrid time to be a tim, but just going every week was a buzz.

You are correct, there were many pivotal figures in the whole saga, from the guys who set up Celts for Change. Matt McGlone was the public speaking figure, he had a fan magazine i think it was called Not the View and it was sold monthly before games. It was superbly well written and thought out, very funny. I used to love it when there was a new issue, cos i had something to read on the bus home instead of listening to that fucking phone in, which if you think is anti-Celtic now, was a hun love in then with Jim White et al.

Celts for change was a movement the fans got behind. I mind they advertised their first meeting and thousands turned up, thousands more than they thought. These guys started the boycotts etc, starved the old board of income and brought things to a head. Despite being part of the old board, there were a few guys (Jimmy Farrell/Tom Grant/Jack McGinn) i think who walked out the door with their heads held high. In fact I think wee Fergus retained them, Grant was Stadium director, McGinn was maybe chairman for a while.
They were the guys who really wanted what was best for Celtic, but it was the Kellys/Whites who held the most shares. Apparently wee Fergus had done a deal with the Kelly/White block to buy their shares and when the bank gave the club 24 hours to deposit money, he told them to go and take a good feck, i'll pay the money to the bank only if you sign them over.

Dempsey put up a million and walked through the door with Fergus. He had money but was the mouth for them while Fergus preferred to do his work in the background.
They had disagreements on the way forward. Dempsey was a supporter first and i think he wanted to take on the huns right away. Wee Fergus had a plan and never deviated from that plan for any reason.

My pal bought tickets for a game and was charged for one too many.
His refund was a £13 cheque and it was signed by Wee Fergus.
Only one person cpuld sign cheques at Celtic, so every penny that went out the door had to go through him first. He never cashed it, he got it framed.
