FC Midtjylland v Celtic - Match Thread. All comments here

To be honest I half expected this tonight. If you are playing, as your centre halves, an 18 and 19 year old, despite their potential, in a crucial qualification match then you are not in a position to progress.
Eddie, despite his talent , lacks the determination and footballing nous to become a top class player. Take what we can get for him. He is played out of position but shows no courage or instinct to get on the end of wingers cross.
Don't really know the answer but we need a clinical striker up front and tactically aware defenders who won't concede soft goals against mediocre opposition.

I take your point that there’s a structure that would help Niall, most definitely
But the idea that someone is going to come in as a DOF and improve the team is wishful thinking IMO
It’s players were lacking
Yes that structure supports better preparation, recruitment and efficiency of department going forward
But even with it in place last year would it have made a difference this year ?
New manager appointed late from the other side of the world. Asked to recruit a near team with 2 weeks notice
A DOF would have perhaps have made a slight difference but we’ve given a guy a threadbare squad with wantaways, internationals at euros up against covid
A fee injuries later were playing kids in the most lucrative game of year
Nothing would have changed last year as in my opinion, there was too much micromanaging power in the hands of one accountant. And we then fucked this summer with waiting for Howe (and I fell for that as much as the board)But..and it's a big one we do need to leave the past behind. The blame lies there and we are still feeling the residual effect now but if we're going to move on we need to remove the shackles of the past.
And I don't know if it's a DOF, Maloney or Jim Leishman (he's alive right? I've not overstepped the mark there? ) but we need some change and I think we need time afforded to ange and mcKay and Maloney or whoever to look at different models elsewhere and implement our version of them.
I've bleated about Brentford model for years, they surpassed us ages ago, now their feeder club has knocked us out, the sooner we embrace some form of statistical model with 2/3 year planning the better. We tried moneyball, and we even tried the Lawwell version of that minus the data. we've been playing at this game by old rules too long, we need to modernise and quick.

I take the point that we need to be modern
A DOF in my opinion oversees a club football department, helps by taking shit away from the manager, they are a constant while managers come and go
They ensure a style is implemented at every level of club developmental teams
Managers are appointed and players are bought that reflect that ethos
Ange has a philosophy, he’s pretty stubborn
So we need a DOF that fits anges philosophy or what’s the point

Hold your head up high Anthony Ralston. The rest? A shambles. Why would anyone want to sign Edouard after watching that? Self preservation was it? Turnbull hyped way beyond what he delivers. Bain is the second worst keeper since Andrews and we know who the worst is. Ajeti? Well at least he was in Denmark, unlike you know who. Going to struggle to support him this season, he has to go. Last summer we let Jozo, Gordon and Hayes go - our choice. A year later all three are better than what we had available tonight.
Celtic PR appear to have excluded the fan media after agreeing a new approach. No reason given or response to emails asking why.

A DoF will have little impact in the short term, but is essential if we are to look to a long term plan to develop a structure and a pathway for improvement rather than seemingly winging it in a haphazard fashion.

There are so many DOF/Sporting director models it would make your head spin. I had my own steadfast opinions on that too, but we can find one to suit. This guy is well worth listening too. If you get a spare hour.

Ange needs to sort out new fitness coaches. Whoever is in charge of fitness is not up to it so they need hinched and hinched now. Blowing outta their holes halfway through the second half. Same shit as last year.
I'd leave Eddie I'm denmark.amd tell him to get his own way to Brighton.
Forrest looks like he was lost in a Forest. When's the last time he done anything worthwhile in a Celtic Jersey? Stealing a wage. He's not the only one, but our biggest problem at the minute is fitness.
