The photograph thread

This is what I was on about the other week lennono, your photie of the otter on Mull. A belter of a snap.
Now look at the one of an otter that the judges chose for this years countryfile calendar for February.

Both are excellent photies , this excellent pic imo could easily be swapped for your pic as both are top quality.

The one above showing the otter returning from the hunt with its captured prey in mouth and your one, they are so similar that it would be no stretch of imagination if I was told that this was the same otter with the same fish that has now returned to land just in time for dinner ( Friday) and you'd just chosen your favourite 2 frames from a sequence of shots that youd taken.

The countryfile calendar, which is for the 'children in need charity' has always been bought by someone in the family as a Christmas present for someone in the family every year for as long as i can mind.
This year Mrs winter's the one who recieved it as a pressie ( sadly from her wee sister Sarah) who just passed on , on Saturday which makes it a particularly special thing for Mrs winter obviously. Last year it was her da who got it. Slight tangent there, point is its always bought as a gift as its for a good cause.

When you see these pictures side by side , I think you can see what I mean?
They are so similar its like both came from the same sequence of shots so great stuff mate 👏.

On a side note about the calendar, there's 3 judges who chose from hundereds if not thousands of pictures which must be narrowed down to 12, an extremely tough task I'd think given the high quality of the pics.

John Craven is always one of the 3 and given that he's been involved in many natural world documentaries over decades now I'd say he's qualified to be one of the judges for it.
One of the other judges this year was Edith Bowman the radio dj.
No offence to Edith Bowman, perhaps she has qualifications I'm unaware of but if not then I think why on earth should she be a judge and maybe it's just her celebratory status they're hoping to use in order to reach as many people as possible to help raise as much funds as possible but it just seems to me a bit like asking the spice girls to name their all time best Celtic starting XI.
Anyway , aye, aw at n at 😎

Edit: just noticed that the countryfile photie was also taken on Mull by a guy called Harrison Hall ( useless trivia)
That's a beauty. I feel the movement in the photo. Mine's better though.

Thanks mate. The thing is, I wish I could even stay longer in situ when waiting for the 'one'. But darkness etc stops me. I'm only five min walk from the harbour, so I go there when the light is good. I see it as a sort of meditation I suppose. Connecting with nature.

Here's one from the harbour

mate not blowing smoke up your arse but they photos you put on here are one in a million shots??you seriously need to be looking to log these on a book??a think they’re stunning..✊🏻

This is one I captured at a place between Blairgowrie and Glenshee last week. A male siskin and his juvenile female interacting. These wee birds are real fast, even when perched, their wings are so fast you can't see it with the naked eye. For this shot I was shooting at 40 frames per second and 1/4000 of a second shutter speed. Which 'froze' the burds :) I got real close, so would print big.

Well I did say that, I was wondering, do you meet other photographers, nature lovers, and like minded souls or do you try to get as isolated as safely possible , get immersed in the environment?
Also I've noticed many times photies that have copyright ©️ attached but I've heard as well that to copyright anything is expensive. Is that something you'd do mate, Copyright a picture ? or is that something for the freelance photographers/paparazzi making money that do this by taking pics of celebs in compromising positions? Sell them on for a fortune, not suggesting you become one of the paps though.
It's a fascinating hobby/occupation/profession no doubt even more so when you're getting results like this , must be a buzz seeing what you know looks great confirmed when you develop

Thanks Winter. I put the copyright or my name on the pics. Some people download them and the copyright mark sometime prevents that. I have found my pics on a B&B up north using one and also on mugs in a shop....I desize them a lot when I post, so they cant print them large without losing image quality. ......Usually on my own when taking pics. Depends on the situ and the type of bird.

A few shots from my feeders in the back garden, Lennono.
Excellent stuff Frank, I've always had a love of birds, with varying degrees of love returned. 😛
Loving this thread already, I thought that with lennono and his clearly pro standard shots we might see some other good photies but have to say I'm well chuffed to see that others have an eye for a great photie, those wee birds , songbirds if you like are so fast about their business its not easy to snap them so well done to get so many. Can I ask you Frank are these taken with a camera ( lennono style) or you using a phone? Either way great shots
